Once my qualifying exams were over, I rushed to Great Smoky Mountains NP to try to catch the tail end of fall. Though most leaves had changed and fallen throughout the park, there were still sporadic pockets of color (like this one along the Little River Trail).
The "Road Trip" is as American as apple pie. In the fall of the year thousands take to the road to view fall foliage. This was taken from a bluff along the Missouri River near Pere Marquette on the busiest leaf looker weekend of the year in 2008.
