This is a part of my son's fascinating mini model of a Stirling engine that actually works when you put it on top of a cup of hot water for instance. A cup filled with ice also works.

A Stirling engine ( invented and patented in 1816 by Robert Stirling ) is a heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and expansion of air or other gas at different temperatures, such that there is a conversion of heat energy to mechanical work.

Stirling engines have a high efficiency compared to internal combustion engines. They are also capable of quiet operation and can use almost any heat source. The heat energy source is generated external to the Stirling engine rather than by internal combustion. Because the Stirling engine is compatible with alternative and renewable energy sources it could become increasingly significant as the price of conventional fuels rises, and also in light of concerns such as depletion of oil supplies and climate change.

This treadle (foot-powered) lathe is at Middleton Place, a plantation outside Charleston, SC. The lathe itself is to the right in this photo, under the window. The treadle is visible just to the left of the small chair. Power was multiplied by means of the large flywheel. The light in this room was stunning.

Time again for a "Ir. Wouda gemaal" picture. This time one of the steam driven waterpumps. I love the contrast between darkness and light in the building and the industrial look. Lemmer, 2013.

This Photograph shows Several Tractors & Cranes, at the Antique Flywheel and Tractor Show, Fort Meade, Florida. The two Piles of Dirt are being distributed along the Paths, which would be used on Saturday & Sunday for the Tractor Pull Contests. All the while that I was there on Friday, the crews were using the Tractor, Cranes & Drag Buckets to create Dual Paths for the Tractor Pull Competitions on Saturday & Sunday.

If you Look Carefully, you can see Three Cranes with Drag Buckets, Scooping up Dirt from the 2 mounds and creating the two tracks to be used for the Tractor Pulls. Several tractors with Scrapper Blades are smoothing out the Dirt. Later a couple of Rollers appeared to start compacting the two Dirt Tracks for the ideal consistency for the next day's Tractor Pull Competitions.

All the while that I was there on Friday, the crews were using the Tractors, Cranes & Drag Buckets to create Dual Paths for the Tractor Pull Competitions. Several tractors with Scrapper Blades are smoothing out the Dirt. Later a couple of Rollers appeared to start compacting the two Dirt Tracks for the ideal consistency for the next day's Tractor Pull Competitions.

This picture emphasizes that the Drag Bucket has entered the Hole to scoop up more Dirt to add to the Piles, for distribution by the Tractors & Scrapers creating the Tractor Pull Tracks.
