Archive surfing and found one from a few years ago, chosen this morning just because i want to get out there again and be alone with the clouds and my camera sometime soon.

Was going to call it 'melt' but that would have suggested warmth, and that would have been very misleading

The virtual blizzard of snow photos from me continues, with a different take on a subject i've visited once or twice in the past (see first comment).

Feedback and criticism are welcome. As well as taking compositions that i loved and thought would work out well, i tried out a few like this where i wasn't so sure, and i do value your opinions on these experiments.

Just to demonstrate that i'm versatile and fence friday doesn't HAVE to include a red squirrel, here's a shot, on a friday, with a fence, and not a single squirrel in sight.

A recurring theme over the years, and after previous battles at Freshwater Bay and Totland Bay (see images in comments), this time the action takes place at Compton Bay. As with the previous contests, you the audience decide and it's a tough one with some fancy altocumulus up against some well arranged and well-rounded mature pebbles.

This wasn't intentional, but i just spotted that following on from yesterdays surfing bail shot, I've got a different kind of bailing today, i should really do something for the dictionary of image!

And i know its technically not a 'combine harverster' pictured here, but I think you should all sing these lyrics out loud whilst looking at these shots!

"I drove my tractor through your haystack last night

(ooh aah ooh aah)

I threw me pitchfork at your dog to keep quiet

(ooh aah ooh aah)"

Doing a little bit of random archive surfing yesterday (looking for oily gulls, will have a little story about them tomorrow) and i found these two shots from the cliffs overlooking freshwater bay taken back in February 2008. I really like the two figures dwarfed by the scale and drama of the bay, I'm now thinking there could be literally thousands of images lurking in the archives that might be worth another look… but i cant help myself and keep taking hundreds of new ones all the time, so many photos so little time :)

About 11:30pm there was a cracking noise like fireworks. When I looks out the window there were flames coming from the garages across the road from where I live. These are my photos. Some were also posted on FB and Twitter.

The rose. If you believe the scientists, this plant pre-dates humans. I love them, especially the old fashioned heavily scented varieties. St George's Gardens. #FindBritain

Out and about exploring over the weekend and i managed to find the only bit of landscape in the UK that wasn't covered in snow! Got some great snowy scenes once i got up on the hills, but it was nice to see a splash of colour again after all the grey and white of previous days. Thanks to everyone who's visited recently, I'm still playing catch-up with life here, but should be back online later to see your new photos later today.

The Church of St. Nonna is the largest parish church on Bodmin Moor, and is also known as the Cathedral of the Moor.

Thanks, its a wonderful life… (pretty sure i've moaned about plenty of stuff this past year so its only right to be happy and grateful when things are going well)

That's another Christmas over with then, and i've lots to be thankful for. Had a really nice time with all my family on Christmas Day itself, all the material stuff was nice, we had a lovely meal and everyone got nice pressies, but all the things that really made me happy were the ones that money cant buy, like seeing everyone together and happy.

And on boxing day i got 3 more priceless gifts, woke up to the news that we were thrashing the Aussies in the latest ashes test, then had a lovely surf in glassy head-high+ waves at Compton Bay (even tho it was -3 when i got in the water) and then to round the day off, QPR beat Swansea 4-0 to stay top of the championship, and for someone who loves surfing, cricket and football, it doesn't get much better than that!!

Hope you all got what you wished for and thanks for all the kind words on my xmas postings!

No particular reason for todays photo other than i like it, it's another from my pre-xmas snow adventure up on the downs above Blackgang and Chale

Time for a bit of brightness after the last few moody shots. And its back up to the downs above Blackgang and Chale and the snow just before Christmas. This farmer uses magic barbed wire that can stop snow on one side and clouds on the other!

Two shots of pretty much the same subject with slightly different composition / crops, any thoughts or feedback on what works best and why?

Another shot from my snowy adventures last weekend up above the microclimate of Chale, which i'm still thinking was probably the only part of the UK not covered in snow! I met fellow photographer Chris Boynton up on the hills and grabbed a few shots of him at work.
