WOW High of #19 on Explore.......many thanks, rather chuffed!!

Friendship and loyalty are an identity of souls

seldom found on earth.

The only really lasting and valuable friendship is

between people of a similar nature.

This is dedicated to a very special friend. This shot would not have been possible if it wasn't for her. Thank you for your insight and support. :)

This Mute Swan allowed me to get close enough to admire her beautiful feathers. My guess is that she was fluffing her feathers to trap some air and be insulated from the elements on this bitter-cold, blustery day.

Explore: 12/15/08 #286. A heap of thanks everyone for your comments, 'faves', and kind invites!

Clark's nutracker strikes a sassy pose for the camera.... close enough to check me out for treats.

....with reflection...just an experiment...

This morning there was a brief break in the clouds. This cloud formation reminded me of a feather off of a very big bird

The only editing I did was sharpening, cropping and a little color boost.Love the Nikon D2H and the Nikon 70-300mm vr.

Uploaded for 2015 one photo each day.

These are the feathers of a Blue Jay. Unfortunately, I found the bird dead near the edge of my pond this morning. Judging from my comings and goings this morning, it must have died there within the hour of shooting this as I had not noticed it earlier today. These are common yet gorgeous birds with a bit of a temper. I have no idea what could have caused its death, as it showed no sign of trauma.

So it made me feel a bit like a scavenger but I couldn't resist getting shots of these beautiful feathers while still fresh. I hope you can view it as a gift from the Blue Jay before it goes away forever.

An interesting quote from Wikipedia about the Blue Jay coloration:

"As with other blue-hued birds, the Blue Jay's coloration is not derived from pigments but is the result of light interference due to the internal structure of the feathers;[citation needed] if a blue feather is crushed, the blue disappears as the structure is destroyed.[citation needed] This is referred to as structural coloration.".

A feather - for Macro Mondays HMM!

I am brand new to macro photography as I just got my lens for Christmas. But I am very eager to play and learn this winter while stuck inside :)

This is for Macro Monday:New

I could go with "new lens" but the feather symbolizes flight, of freedom, of going beyond boundaries, of getting “above it all,” or of the need to let go and travel light.

I love the opening of Forrest Gump. Hanks says of the feather, "Our destiny is only defined by how we deal with the chance elements to our life and that’s kind of the embodiment of the feather as it comes in. Here is this thing that can land anywhere and that it lands at your feet. It has theological implications that are really huge.”

For me, I am open to what photography has in store for me and the new adventures I will be taken on in 2015.

(and its shadow)

The day after Christmas, my friend Rob (riverboy777) and I made plans to go out waterfall hunting, along with his daughter and her friend. We ended up going to Feather Falls near Oroville, after getting stopped by snow on our way to our initial destination, Seven Falls. It was a great hike. Feather Falls is a most spectacular 400 ft. high waterfall.

Lot's of interesting detail's in just One Goose Feather.

Now that we have a bird feeder up, I suspect we'll see feathers lying on the ground from time to time. I just hope the bird feeder doesn't end up doing double duty as a cat feeder.
