Thin clouds in front of the setting sun bathed the whole scene an amazing warm reddish light. A lone fisherman enjoys the colorful sunset at Evolution Lake (10,852 ft) in northern Kings Canyon National Park.
Thanks again for the scans Joe.
Mt. Mendel, Evolution Basin, Kings Canyon National Park, California.
This is another in my JMT series. It is a panorama best viewed in its large size. Please view my other JMT images in my JMT set.
This is a stitch of four single exposures made with a Nikon D7000 and Tokina 11-16mm.
I lingered at McClure Meadow for far too long and found myself hustling up the switchbacks out of Colby Meadow up to Evolution Lake. Even before I arrived at this site, the ridge had been on fire for many minutes and I stopped liberally to make images. This site is a little tarn right next to Evolution Lake. Immediately after I made these images I would set up camp for the night, cook and eat dinner and then set up my camera to capture the alpenglow over Mt. Mendel and Mt. Darwin.

It seems that evolution does not always stick to the correct order ...

Dall's porpoise swimming at high speed, Juan de Fuca strait, B.C.
Phylogenetic studies based upon genetic and anatomy (especially the astragalus bone characteristics) recently revealed that Artiodactyls (Bovidae, Cervidae, Camelidae,..) are the closest relatives to Cetaceans within Mammals. Fossils that were discovered in 2001 raised the hypothesis that Cetaceans would actually share a close common ancestor with the Hippopotamidae (hippos) which are Artiodactyls too.
Hard to believe when you see those porpoises swimming at 45km/h, but evolution is a fabulous process..
