The Wittwer men, Kael (left), Asa (lower right), Soren (upper right), sitting on his father, Travis's lap in front of their house in North Portland on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008. The bike, known as a Bakfiet is what Travis takes his kids to school in. This is a posed family portrait. The mom is not in the photo because at the present time, Travis is a stay at home father, and his wife is a working nurse who works at Providence Hostpital in the ER. PS. the tree was not standing upright on the ride. It was wrapped in a blanket with twine to shrink it up, and pointed forward like a narwhal.

On the handlebars of my bakfiets, repurposed overalls from my youngest son. Straps go over the bars and there is a tie on the back at the bottom. Great for storing gloves and such when I take them off half way through the ride, or a place to store snacks for kiddos. Plenty of pockets for sundries.

I need to get a filter or some sort, or mess with the setting so that the bridge in the background (405 bridge, also called the Freemont bridge--I believe) is dark enough to show up. Suggestions anyone?

My camera settings were off (I am the only one to blame), but the shot is in front of one of my favorite murals in Portland so I had to use it. I will have to snap it again while the sun is still out.

I can't wait! In a little over an hour I am hopping in the car to drive to Stockholm, WI to eat dinner at the pizza farm. Even though I have more fruit to deal with than ever, this was the most fun I had all last summer (which says a lot) and I've been working so much this summer there's been a serious dearth of fun around here. I need this mini vacation!

If you want to see more, here's my photo set from last year.

Angela is the leader of the bike bus that heads to and from Metropolitan Learning Center each day. She had the vision to create a video for the Filmed by Bike festival in Portland, OR.

Along with the help of the kids and parents, this is the final cut.

There will be a 3 disc box set with the director's cut and extras, perhaps a commentary or two :O)

This is a group of students who bike to-and-from school thereby creating a "bike bus". These students attend MLC in Portland, OR.

To learn more about the bike bus, visit the bike bus blog at, mlcnorthportlandbikebus.wordpress.com/

Or read about it at www.ecometro.com/portland/search.aspx?tag=The+Wheel+Ameri...

We would love to hear about other student bike buses out there.

Director: Angela D. Goldsmith

Filmers: Travis Wittwer, AD Goldsmith & Charles Cooper Editing: Travis Wittwer, Angela D. Goldsmith Theme Song: Bye Bye Blackbirds, "After Work"

I still have not staged the perfect photo of this arrangement. However this one is closer. The day I got here, there was some Nike shoot waiting for me (they were setting up across the street as I pulled up) so I felt compelled to finish quick.

On my bike. Carries the boys backpacks on the way home from school. The clamps are used for cinching things done. The cups are repurposed cups with multiple-colored LEDs inside that give the bike a turbo charges look and make me visible from the side. The blinkies on the back have seen better days.
