Another nice Autumnal day along the River Don, Aberdeen

our outdoor bannister in December's ice storm... reminding me of my father's perennial Christmas poem:

If Santa Claus should stumble

When he climbs the chimney tall -

There's always ice upon it -

I'm afraid he'd have a fall

And smash himself to pieces,

To say nothing of the toys.

Dear me! What sorrow that would bring

To all the girls and boys...

. . Hoi Lot.

Another from the series when Maxsie and I went out in search of a sunrise, and found Don Hoi Lot (ดอนหอยหลอด) - a sandbar off the coast of Samut Songkhram.

We're planning a 5am meet tomorrow for another trip, who knows where . . . and this time we're being joined by a fellow Flickrie, Mark Austria; Mark and I have been promising to get together for over a year already.

Weatherwise, we may get no sunrise, I'm about to go to bed (you would too if you have to get up at 4am) - and at the moment it is chucking it down in torrents. The SW Monsoon knows it's only got another 6 or 7 weeks to go, and it is doing it's level best to get it's money's worth!

Recent shot off the Northern California shoreline in Sonoma County.

Of course, we all know that autumn has arrived. You see it in the subtle changes around you ... the daylight begin to get shorter, there's a change in the breeze temperatures, perhaps you might even begin to smell the changes in the environment, or the leaves begin to change colors and eventually drop off. Whatever it may be, to me it's such a wonderful feeling and probably my favorite season of the year. Disclaimer alert: I see very few of these changes in south Florida ... LOL.

In Alaska, the fall season is a very short one, as is the summer season. When fall begins approaching, it does so with speed and determination. The colors don't just have a subtle change, it's undeniable.... and it doesn't last very long at all. If we visit Alaska towards the end of summer, we try to time it just right for the fall colors to arrive and peak. That is perhaps a 3-4 day window. As you can see, I think that we timed it right. Though admittedly, I don't think that the 2014 season packed as much punch as it normally does, it still impresses those who are fortunate enough to witness it. Don't blink, it's over before you know it. :-)

As I said, in south Florida, we get a bit cheated by the arrival of fall "notice". However, we just spent the weekend in Gainesville, FL, where it was the most amazing weekend and I could definitely feel that fall was in the air ... and in the many leaves which had dropped into our open-air pool. Makes me wonder why I live where I do. Though I know that every place has it's own beauty and uniqueness ... you just have to be patient and watch for it's presence around you.

Thanks for stopping by to view and especially for your thoughts and comments.
