I have no idea what I was doing here, but since now it's two days later, it's not like I can reshoot this. So, yeah, sorry. I tried. And failed.

Veterans Day 2006:

If you can read this, take a moment and look around you: that's what freedom looks like!

Now take another moment and reflect... that freedom you enjoy is not free; it came at a great price! Remember those who have served past, present, and future; and especially those who gave everything to secure that freedom for us today! As you go about your daily business on this day, keep a good thought for those who are standing in harms way even now as you read: they don't ask what your politics are, what language you speak, where you live, what color your skin is... they serve in the name of freedom, and they deserve nothing more than our undying respect and our complete support, as they give freely of themselves to maintain our way of life into the future!

God Bless our Armed Forces, and God Bless the United States of America!

Did someone say "neck?" LOL.

Thanks for the fun and laughs last night, Jim& Brandy. All the hilarious scenarios we made up had me practically convulsing with laughter. You guys are great and so much fun. We'll have to plan another downtown meet up when it's a bit warmer. You know...we have those plans for nekkid sliding. Now THAT'S a photo op!

Btw...I like my neck lightly bitten. You know, in case anyone was wondering. *grin*

Note to self… if you decided to work out in the future. Lifting large chunks of asphalt is a very good way of working the muscles out! I awoke today SO sore from hauling those things a mere hundred yards! Today I had planned on using as a day of rest before Monday's big shoot. However, upon waking, I realized that it would be anything but. Combined I had over 15 messages between Facebook, email, text and Voicemail. I was the center of a large operation and a day of rest could not be afforded. I'll rest Tuesday!

First thing I had to do was purchase two new bedsheets from Walmart. This time I decided to get them in grey as to avoid the models blond hair from blending into the backdrop. I think this will work out to be the way to go in the future. first person on my contact list was the client. I called Patty and ended up talking to here through most of Walmart. I was shocked to find out that Walmart had increased the price of their king sized bed sheets by a whopping 3 dollars. How will I ever justify the cost of backdrops at a astonishing 15.88? Having no choice I sucked it up and purchased two. I had to also pick up Joyce's prescription and was pleasantly surprised that when asked for her birthday, I remembered it - Score!!

Next up was nourishment. For the 56th time this week, I hit up Chipotle for some good old organic sodium laden mexican american fusion fare. It was so good!!

I headed home to un pack, organize and repack each and every piece of gear I owned. After a careful and thorough run trough, I was confident I had everything. I also had about 2 lbs of sand from the beach, Now on my kitchen floor and in the tiniest of cracks in the grout. The swiffer refused to clean it, the mop flat out quit and a wet paper towel wasn't cutting it. The vacuum didn't have a small enough attachment or enough suck to get it. I may just have to let it run its natural course! These are times, I need a house keeper!!

So, I was now packed up and ready for Monday. I wasn't sure I'd be able to make the dinner reservations that were made for 5:30 in Palm Beach. But… I as it looked I would make it. I called Patty and told her I'd be able to make it. Off to palm beach I went.

With a car full of gear I was slightly nervous about leaving my car with valet. However, once I realized that my car would be the very last car to be broken into in that area, I was a little more calm. I swear, with a ferrari, Bently and about a dozen BMWs I knew my car wouldn't even cover an oil change for some of those rides. I left my car with Valet and I went in to meet our lovely model Leah Jung. Leah, a 5'6" blond haired, fair skinned model may look ordinary from a distance, but up close you realize that she has more art on her body than most museums! Heavily tattooed and beautiful are definitely working in her favor. Leah has graced the cover of quite a few magazines and models at least once a week she says. Not at all pretentious or self absorbed, she is funny, smart and sarcastic. I will have no problem getting along with her.

The laughs were flowing a the table as Patty, Gary, Leah and myself exchanged stories and experiences. Now, this is one of those restaurants that old rich people come to. At one point this old couple from the table next to us looked over in disgust. I just had to laugh because, being that uptight must be painful! I'd imagine it comparable to being constipated all the time! I bet they don't even remember what its like to laugh or even enjoy a moment. Oh well!

Gary, Patty's husband, seemed hell bent on desert, So, being the team player I am… I ordered desert also. We all shared and it was amazing!

The valet actually remembered my car, not that it was hard to pick out. Look at this guys shoes… he must be in that piece of shit over there. They had that thing pulled up not more than 30 seconds from the time we walked out. Now, thats service. On the way home I started to get the feeling that I was following the wrong car. I'm not sure how many Blue Bentley's there are in Palm beach but I'm sure its more than red Honda Accords. Turns out that It was the right car and we arrived back at the Patty Madden Compound (its just her home). We had more work to do. First up was the shot of the day. Ms. Leah was kind enough to step in and model some of the clothing that had been purchased for the shoot. I scouted out the house for interesting locations. The first thing that jumped out at me was this ornately carved alter like thing. Turns out it was from the 1700s and was used to pray. We suited Leah up into this crazy S&M looking dress and started shooting. Leah moves naturally and is very easy to work with. I was very pleased with this and know I won't have a problem working with her in the AM.

Next up was the bathroom. WIth a old claw foot tub, I wanted nothing more than to fill it with milk and sprinkle red rose petals on the surface. Unfortunately we had neither roses or milk, so we were shit out of luck. Leah put on these black sequin pants that were obvious a size too small. She couldn't bend down or move for that matter. What do ask her to do… "uh, can you sit on the floor?" Like a wooden legged pirate, she awkwardly maneuvers onto the floor. We snap shots for about 10 minutes and move the the pool table. I would have shot more but knew we had more to do.

I wanted to draw a grid on the grey sheet in order to make the compositing of a background easier. The grid lines would give me a good idea of the angle of the camera. When I would grab a background shot I would know how much to angle the camera by looking at the foreground file. We tried for an hour to devise a method to draw accurate and straight lines. Finally we gave up, clamped it to a giant rolling wall and put white stickers on the sheet at 1 foot intervals.

I knew I had to get the shot edited so I called it a night. I don't know how I am going to get any sleep… here goes 3 hours!!

to better days and different habits

I had planned on spending my time editing all the photos I took in England and thinking about new ones, but my day resulted in lots of stress due to disagreements concerning commissioned photos and discussing with my mum.

I began to fall ill as the hours passed, so I basically just sat around being cuddled up under a blanket and waited for my headache, sore throat and aching chest to get better. they didn’t and for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to stay up too late, watch 5 episodes of Full House and waste my time on the computer.

Rosa's photo for today

So I'm totally stoked for Halloween. It is only 15 days away. I got the last parts to my costume in the mail today and now I just got to put it all together :) This year is going to be a great Halloween. Since the shoot we did last night, I kept thinking of new zombie ideas. So I decided to do another one. I'm on the right and my buddy james in on left.

Today was a great day over all. Me and Travis saw Where the Wild Things Are today.

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

It's in my top movies of 2009 and maybe even my top 10 favorite movies. I loved the book as a kid. I was like speechless for a good 30 minutes after seeing. It was just so well done. The Director Of Photography (Lance Acord) did a STUNNING job. Everything about the movie was just so well planned out and thought out. Everything from the acting to the puppets, to the cinematography to the soundtrack. Just a GREAT film and I applaud Spike Jonze for doing a a GREAT adaptation of such a classic children's book without ruining the story and not making it a boring 110 minutes. Some people may think different about the movie, but I urge all of you to go see it. It will make you smile and bring out your inner kid :)

A prank off gone horribly wrong, but hey at least Toby got the last laugh. (That's incredibly morbid!) Also I kind of had an idea for a contest that would require the participators to build one vig for five days straight and each day I would score them and whoever had the most points would win. If I do this contest there would be no prize (sorry) other than bragging rights. This isn't an official announcement, I'm just wondering if anybodies interested. This Vig might become my paper weight... 218

My morning was filled with a wonderful breakfast date, and a little window browsing. Bright fun stuff that made me smile and come home feeling happy.

I thought these butterflies were cool since the tree outside fit in perfectly.

The rest of my colorful morning is in the comments below.... as I could not choose one to sum up my morning. :)

Scrumptious Morsels… the new name of my brother Shawn's and Mothers new mini cupcake and desert business. Why mini? they're bite size, cute and are just the right size for people of any age. Why do I like them? Well, other than the taste being superb, I'd have to say that being small makes it easy to eat just enough or sometimes WAY too much. Sometimes a full size cupcake it too much and sometimes its not enough. Problem is you take a whole cupcake and don't finish it, your a waster! These bite size morsels are just the right size and you don't feel guilty eating one… or 10!

They had just today settled on a permanent name for the business thanks to the clever suggestion by Joyce. They've tested about a half dozen recipes and the only problem they've encountered has been shrinkage. No, I'm not talking about the cupcakes shrinking… I'm talking about employee theft. Ya, if they're not watched they disappear rather quickly. Quality Control is a very important phase of product development and it seems everyone in my house is strongly in aggrence.

Since they have settled on a name and actually put a product out that I can get behind, I figured why not help them out and put together a marketing package for them. Of course, what marketing package is complete with out a kick ass photo for the business cards, menus and website. Shawn has settled on being the face of the company. Something which I've yet to figured out wether its a good or a bad thing. However, something that I have figured out is that if Shawn walks around with dozens of the best tasting sweats around, he'll be sure to make a lot of friends! I know I like him that much more now that he has something to offer!!

When I said I'd do this shot I immediately imagined what the shot would look like. The end result is exactly what was in my head and I am very pleased. I'm damn sure that this image will pop right off the page and make any advertisement stand out. Shawn even agreed to the purple/pink shirt!

It took a while to get the shot right. Seeing that I was to shoot it in 3 different shots I had to make sure each lined up and was at the correct perspective. Shawn wasn't able to hold the pose for very long seeing that his back is pretty messed up. worse, yet… workman's comp. denied to cover surgery stating that his back isn't bad enough. Maybe when he can't walk, they'll see it fit to cover surgery. My Christmas present to Shawn was to take him to California to spend New Years with our other brother Cory and his Wife Katie. Shawn said if we all plan on snow boarding and having an active vacation than he's not coming. I was thrown back at his remark. Just because we'd take 1 day out of 7 to snowboard, he'd rather not go? that seems like bull shit to me! So, because his back is hurt we all have to act like were injured? How bout he suck it up and accept the gift and enjoy the west coast, his brothers and a kick ass new years! "shawn… stop being a dick"

Ok, for those who typically tune out for the technical part…. You can go get coffee or take that bathroom break you've been thinking about. Even thought its not my fault you drank 5 cups of coffee, I won't hold it against you if you leave. You have 5 minutes.

WARNING: TECHNICAL JARGEN

This shot is comprised of 3 separate images. In order to maintain sharpness throughout the entire image I needed to split it up. No camera that I know of can maintain focus from 1.5 feet from the lens to infinity. Maybe if my lens stopped down to f400 it would but I chose to shoot it at f11.

The first shot up was Shawn's face and body. I had him hold his hand out as if he was holding the cupcake. Next up was the shot of his hand holding the cupcake. due to the angle of his hand I knew that I was not going to be able to get the hand and forearm in focus. I opted just for the hand. Since the product is the cupcake I want that being the point of extreme sharpness.

Last was the shot of his forearm. My focus was just below his wrist. I would have liked to get a little more depth but seeing that Shawn couldn't hold his hand still enough, I had to take what I could get. I just hope I pulled it off. I've looked at it so much I honestly can't tell anymore.

Of course I masked everything out and underlaid of smooth grey backdrop. I then added white circular highlights behind the areas of interest. I then added a hue and saturation layer right above the grey backdrop and adjusted to the nice blue color. I always start with neutral grey as it gives me the ability to go to any color with ease.

I added several layers of flour like splashes to add a little texture.

I like the way it turned out and only hope everyone who sees it loves it.

Technical jargon Finished.

I got another call today to do a themed event like the Lifetime Fitness Halloween party and the Ghouls Gone Wild party. This time its another 80's Prom theme. It should be a great time. I'm also working with a production company to produce a documentary style behind the scenes show on my upcoming Magazine shoot. I hope we can all agree on numbers and make it work. It will cover the final creative meeting along with the day of production and some of the post production work. Should be a great inside look into a full shoot. Great marketing material for all parties involved. We'll see how that plays out! I'm excited!!

I haven't posted a photo of Monkey in a loooong time. He's gotten so big! I think this was the last time I posted him. Anyway, he's a complete butthead, he doesn't listen, he eats the cat food, he won't let me shower with the door closed and I love him to death. He makes my heart happy. Jochberg is a 1,567 metres (5,141 ft) tall mountain in the Bavarian Alpenvorland, the first range of mountains of the Alps in southern Germany. The mountain stands between two large lakes, namely Kochelsee and Walchensee.

Due to the striking view of the surrounding Bavarian countryside from its summit, Jochberg is a popular day hike for locals as well as for residents of nearby Munich. The trail is considered easy enough to be enjoyable for all ages, thus adding to its popularity. In addition, the peak is frequently used as a launching site for paragliding. The ascent begins from the Kesselberg or alternatively for a somewhat longer hike from Jachenau, Sachenbach am Ostufer, a small village near Walchensee, or Kochel, a town immediately on the shore of Kochelsee. Beneath the summit at 1,382 metres there is a farm active during the summer and popular with the hikers called Jocheralm (meaning roughly "Yoke Pasture of the Mountains"). On a clear day the Munich Olympiaturm is quite visible, despite being over 60 km (37 mi) to the north. Another notable feature is that mountain is also climbed quite frequently in winter and when there is moderate snow accumulation, tracks are left behind from Kesselberg to the summit.

Day 100 of my '365 Project' for 2013.

Day 183/365:

"Photography as I conceive it, well, it’s a drawing — immediate sketch done with intuition and you can’t correct it. If you have to correct it, it’s the next picture. But life is very fluid. Well, sometimes the pictures disappear and there’s nothing you can do. You can’t tell the person, “Oh, please smile again. Do that gesture again.” Life is once, forever." - Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Alternative Title: "What Leica and B&H has taught me about Photography."

Photography is a weird medium, its half technical and half art, with Digital Technology it's that on steroids. Working at B&H I see an interesting side to this; Photographers who become gearheads, the internet is full of people who write reviews about why this cameras great and this one sucks, and meanwhile they are not contributing anything creative to the world.

We now have cameras with 36 Megapickles, a 1900mm Superzoom, Incredible Full Frame Sensors, and 14 frames per second, but yet even with all that technology, I don't see anything new being said.

I'm totally guilty of being a part of this world as well... caring more about specs then how a Camera feels and what it makes you want to create; Walking into a location and thinking of where I'm going to stick lights rather than how I can work the natural environment.

Shooting with slower cameras like the Leica and Fuji has forced me to slow down, to look around and think. The Leica is a flawed camera in many, many, many ways. Especially when compared to anything new on the market.

But it makes me think, and create work in a different way. That is all we should care about when it comes to the tools we use, How they make you feel, and How they make you think, rather than what Ken Rockwell posted about or which brick is out of focus on DP Review.

50/365. These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do.

One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you. ~ Nancy Sinatra

So I've made it to day fifty. Can't think of a more fitting photo than to march (ha, get it!) on the Capital!

So today I've been asked to be a guest blogger on SLR Geek which ought to be fun. It will be a great place for me to nerd out with other gear heads. Granted it sometimes takes the fun out of photography, but I always enjoy a little shop talk every so often. I'll let ya'll know when I have some posts up. Cheers everyone!

When I was in Scotland, we went to see Murray's Monument in Galloway Forest Park. Close to the monument, there is a waterfall. We got there jumping from rock to rock, almost falling into the water. When we finally got there we found out there was a path on the other side. And that's where I took this photo. At least it was fun. Even though it was getting dark so there were a million bugs flying around us. We couldn't even talk because if we opened our mouths, we would swallow bugs lol

Beautiful place. I wish I had been there on a hotter day.
