"Creature"
Shot Oct.31st 2013, in Tromsø, northern Norway.
This picture is shortlisted for Astronomy Photographer of The Year 2014 : www.flickr.com/photos/royalobservatory/galleries/72157645...

After days of strong activity on the sun without subsequent auroras in the sky, we finally got our reward for being patient :)
And what a reward!! On October 31st a CME hit us, and with clear skies it was hard to decide where to shoot. We had multicolored auroras all over the sky for large parts of the
night!
My heart was beating fast as I did not want to miss this one, and I was panicking and looking for a good composition. What is so excting about shooting a good aurora photos is that you are NOT in control of where the auroras are in the sky, so making a good composition is challenging!
However these old birch-trees wordked well as arms reaching for some creature in the sky. Previously I've had shots which reminded me of angels, birs, dragons, phoenix, what creature do you see in this?
The shot is a small pano composite stich of 2 shots.
Shot with Canon EOS 5D Mark III + Nikon 14-24

To me, this has a spooky, Gothic feel to it...brooding, dark & creepily romantic. Even the glow in the background looks like a misty, silvery moon. Sadly, it's more Twilight than it is True Blood (my fav show on television). So I am calling this moody tween-bee Edward. It was either that or "Vlad the Impollenator".
Uh oh--Edward is trying to Glimmer you

I´ve been fiddling with this so long that I can´t tell if this went in the right direction or if I need to add or substract anything, so instead I´ll just post it again ;)
I believe this is a type of Agave cactus, photographed in the Desert biome at the Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus Ohio.
This photo was festured in the "Desert Creatures" installment of the Flickr Blog on July 29. 2010:
The early morning sun lit up the most spectacularly dew-laden spider web! This one MUST be seen in large size on black =)
**Updated** I took this photo exactly one year ago today. And it's still one of my favorites. I re-edited it last night and it's amazing to see how much I've improved and learned since then.
Inspired by my favorite story, Little Red Riding Hood :) I thought I'd put my Halloween costume to some use.

I was just playing around again inventing a creature.
it kind of looks like a baboon, it has a ways to go to be finished, I cropped of the body since it is still real sketchy.
Thought I would rotate this one Tackyshack style!!! Looks like some sort of creature dont you think?

(Explore in/out, 19/2/2013) Butterfly, possibly HESPERIIDAE, trapezites iacchus, or an orange skipper, on one of Ernie's Birds of Paradise flowers. If you had a bird's-eye view, the black and yellow of the moth blends in with the black (dead petals), blue and yellow of the flower. Unfortunately I could not get this POV when taking the shot. Thanks to Light (Paul) and the following websites have identified it as definitely a butterfly of HESPERIIDAE. (Source: www1.ala.org.au/gallery2/main.php and anic.ento.csiro.au/database/biota_details.aspx?BiotaID=27266 and australianbutterfliesphotographed.com/ - interesting websites!)
