"There is then creative reading as well as creative writing. When the mind is braced by labor and invention, the page of whatever book we read becomes luminous with manifold allusion.”

“What is Creative Mondays?

Monday’s are always a drag. The start of a new week, you have to go back to that routine of going to bed early/get up early. If (like me) you have to commute then you prepare for that long journey into work and that long journey back for the first time after a nice two day break.

So to kick off those lousy Mondays, I’m going to get my creative mind flowing in a positive way. Creative Mondays. A chance for me to show off something unfinished or finished that I’ve been working on throughout the previous week.”

Well it’s that time of year again. Things are winding down and everyone’s preparing for the holiday season. Over here on CreativeJUUS things are still moving along but there’s been some reflecting over the past year. This week I wanted to create something grand with my logo. Playing around with a few ideas and looking through some stock photos I found this amazing landscape shot which presented enough room to show off that orange spiral. I quite like how the reflection works to create an entirely new shape and attempted to put the shape into a more realistic setting. Topped off with a few birds and some shrubs I have something I can now use as my new.myspace background! You can see it in action here. new.myspace.com/jasonwstanley

Scott helped me out this evening as I walked around the house, camera in hand, looking for an unsuspecting kitty or puppy to snap a quick shot of.

The animals weren't too into the idea of posing again (flashes are scary) so Scott posed for me.

Whew, pestered him while he was working and he still helped me out. What a guy!

Hope everyone has had a good day.

I love my fashionist socks! Oh, and my Doc Martins! I've had these Docs for 9 years. They rock! The Creative Group contacted me to come in and get reactivated. I joined them about 2 years ago. Nice to go in and get reaquainted. We'll see...

AHHH! Look what arrived in the mail for me! Now I, like you have been viewing all of the updates on this creation as Elizabeth was making it...So I knew what each would look like...BUT there is nothing to describe what each actually is until you have them in front of you!

Elizabeth is so incredibly talented and quite meticulous in every small detail! Her colors are sublime and her work..made with love.

This is the best surprise and most beautiful gift of love I have ever received. Elizabeth of Creative Breathing..you are amazing and you know just how I feel about you.

I felt the need to share your pieces when they arrived to my home and I will add more when they find their special places in my living spaces.

I love you dearly and can't thank you enough!

Mais um postcard!

I hate it when I get there too early. But, earlier is better than late. Since I was early, I was checking my messages on my iPhone. The Creative Group contacted me to come in and get reactivated. I joined them about 2 years ago. Nice to go in and get reaquainted. We'll see...

“Because of the routines we follow, we often forget that life is an ongoing adventure. . . Life is pure adventure, and the sooner we realize that, the quicker we will be able to treat life as art: to bring all our energies to each encounter, to remain flexible enough to notice and admit when what we expected to happen did not happen. We need to remember that we are created creative and can invent new scenarios as frequently as they are needed.”

― Maya Angelou

A few days back, I posted a picture of a Chestnut-mandibled Toucan. If one of these birds is great, I guess "two can" be even more better. All right - insert groan here. I couldn't help myself. OK, back to the birds. This is the Keel-billed Toucan and it is quite different from the other one - totally different designs and colors on its beak.

I think this bird breaks a few design rules. If I generalize just a little, I would say that we as human beings, love to be told the rules and then we tend follow them, sometimes mindlessly. Isn't it in our blood to - color inside the lines, follow the rule of thirds, not cut in line or run with scissors, and keep the horizon straight. Even as creatives we sometimes feel instinctively obliged to follow the rules of artistic expression. I have a hunch, that God, the ultimate creative, chuckles and says "Hah! Who says? Who says the beak can't be that large? And who says those colors don't necessarily vibrate well together? And color inside the lines? What lines? Aha - just watch what I can come up with." And the result of God's sense of humor and creativity gives us the Keel-billed Toucan and a host of other things that endlessly delight us in the natural world.

So as someone who is trying very hard to learn to be a creative, I think there is a great lesson here and I should pay attention.

And we'll all take another look at this toucan and smile.

I had a little issue last week after walking the dogs on a gravel road, in the wrong shoes, and experienced pain in my left heal. By the end of the day I could hardly put any weight on my foot and the next day I was hoping around and experiencing much pain. The doctor treated me for achilles tendon, icing it and not putting weight on it. This lasted for a couple of days...this made me a little nervous, so I decide to get even more 'creative' in my back yard buying flowers so I could change up the background and hopefully capture the Allen's Hummingbird that has been flying around. It's been fun sitting and watching my backyard visitors that come to bathe in the fountain that I'm sure have been there all along.

I hope you like it because there will be more to come...:)

This past Saturday was beautiful. M and I went to the park to catch the last bit of the beautiful fall colors. When there's wind, it felt like the sky was raining leaves. It was beautiful, but I was feeling a little sad. Not because the leaves were fallen, but because I had no idea what to shoot for next week. After nine months of posting five pictures per week, I am running out of ideas. I even start to doubt if it's because our lives have become boring? Then M said, "The purpose of this blog is to document our day to day lives for a years. So of course, there will be ups and downs. Why don't you just take a photo of you having a creative block?" So then that's exactly what I did. After this photo was created, I felt all better already!
