Something will have gone out of us as a people if we ever let the remaining wilderness be destroyed. We simply need that wild country available to us, even if we never do more than drive to its edge and look in.

On the way home from visiting friends at their lake home in Wisconsin, we had to detour around the huge Country Thunder music festival. We came upon our own version.
Went to Wandlebury Country park today, a really lovely place for a walk. Took me ages to get them to stand like that.

A light early morning mist above the paddocks.
We have just spent a week visiting friends and family in Victoria and South Australia. I spent an early morning driving around country roads in the Coonawarra area of South Australia. No seascapes but some lovely light, and landscape compositions were plentiful... This photo taken at about 5.30am some 40 minutes before sunrise...
Just down the road from my friend's house.
Best viewed LARGE!
I have had people saying I should crop out the front but I really like all the layers in this! Thanks for the suggestions though!

I posted the original version of this image on my Back Roads 365. blog, but was not quite happy with the composition. Sometimes you have to live with an image for a while, study it and modify it until you find it's true soul. This was one of those images.
Be sure to check out my blog's Back Roads and Back Roads 365.

West Sveadahl Lutheran Church.
The church closed some years ago, was sold, and is now used as a home by the purchasers.

Almost like in the song by John Denver, this country road takes me home to the city where I work...

The Shaftsbury Country Store in the small village of Shaftsbury, Vermont. Shot with the Olympus E-5 on a beautiful autumn day. Now here's a place definitely worth finding out about, if old traditional country stores are at all fascinating to you. They are to me so I couldn't help stopping here along Route 7A on my way to finding the former residences of both Robert Frost and Norman Rockwell, two Vermonters often mistaken for Massachusetts denizens. And while there's truth in the latter it is in Vermont where Frost lived and wrote some of most famous poems, including "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening." Of course I walked those woods , camera in hand. Rockwell's home served him well here for almost two decades before moving to The Bay State to be close to his wife where she was institutionalized.
Sadly this venerable old establishment has now closed ... November, 2014.
I am going to be so embarrassed about this shot soon but for the present let me tell you that it is the first time I have done the texture thing and I am delighted that I managed it at all. Help and advice gratefully accepted.
Starting with the window image in the first comment, I repeated, blended, distorted, added some blossoms and a drain, colorized, cropped and masked until I was happy in a surreal kind of way!!

Cow Country #2
2nd shot of the series.
The sky before the first rain of the season. Just a simple shot.
This is a stretch of White Rock Road in Folsom heading towards El Dorado Hills. Beyond the horizon of these golden foothills lay the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Lake Tahoe.
