...... could have been last evening after the thunderstorm and downpour - the one I all but missed because I forgot to look out the window in time. The rain was very welcome after several sizzling hot days but I could have done without the rumble and the roar.
I write in my profile that I am an editor. In this role I have occasion to hire people to help produce magazines. These sometimes include photographers.
On the magazine currently in production, I have attempted to make contact with three separate "photographers" in various parts of the province. Some are on Flickr, others on FB or other combined social media. On all three occasions nothing has come of it.
I suppose my advice to those interested in hanging out a 'shingle' is do not call yourself So-and-So Photography unless you intend to a) reply to email queries, b) follow up to potential business leads, c) frequently check messages on the social media you are posting your photos to, d) understand copyright, and e) take yourself seriously.
I have developed a successful business relationship with a photographer on Flickr so that makes up for this string of bad karma. Whew!
Got as much of the clear sky as I could in this image. The clouds came quickly to spoil the fun. But of course... in the timelapse video, it is neat to watch the clouds roll in.
Stuck the GoPro onto the tree with the grip tripod thingy.
On the way back to the cottage from Chandos Lake (see yesterdays photo), I had to stop the car for this view. There is another photo in Comments.
Boulder-strewn shoreline at pond's edge, Tunnel Island, northwestern Ontario. Knife painting on stretched canvas (oil, 11x14 in, sold).
The low sun shines through an opening where this small bay connects to the lake, illuminating a small group of trees along the shore.
Bracebridge Falls unlike Bala Falls (which I posted a photo of a couple of days ago), has had a hydroelectric dam for over a century. Recently updated to increase its power output to 2.6MW, it is a well known tourist attraction in the Muskoka cottage country area. Silver bridge can also be seen in the photo as it passes over the Muskoka River.
Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada.

this is one of a few sunset photos from last fall at camp crossroads for a youth leaders retreat. it was a really beautiful sunset, but i felt the need to boost the colours, almost beyond recognition.
interestingly, this photo has not had any filters or colours added to it in photoshop. using lightroom, i took the raw photo and boosted colour saturation, tweaked hues, and drastically altered the fill, blacks, contrast, and brightness levels.
Taken with a GoPro Hero 4.
Placed the camera on the bench and took three 30 sec exposures to create this panorama.
I was really surprised when I came inside to find these shots on my camera. It was pretty much pitch black outside with a hint of sunset
Oh - I know there have been many this year, but this was the first one that I was awake to shoot at the cottage.
hi folks, Simon here.
so, who did you expect, Alvin. ha! of course you did, he and Theodore get all the attention. so when I met-up with pixler in cottage country a couple of weeks ago and he offered to take some shots and post them on flickr, I simply couldn't refuse, could I.
today, it’s my turn to shine, my time to be in the spotlight. today I’m the star of the show. lights. camera. action. let the show begin.
thank you. thank you very much...
Here is another image created by capturing a night-lapse with my GoPro Hero 4 Black and stacking the frames as individual images in Photoshop. Will post the video as well! The tree is covered in about a cm of ice because of a recent storm. Very shiny!
"The Equinox occurs twice a year when the tilt of the Earth's axis inclines, either towards or away from the Sun; as this happens the center of the Sun aligns itself with the same plane as the Earth's equator which then affects the weather through what we experience as the change of Seasons." ~Tomitheos

fun facts: The word 'Equinox' is derived from the Latin word aequus meaning equal and nox meaning night primarily because around the time of the Equinox, night time and day time hours are approximately equally as long.
This is a composition I have photographed on several occasions, drawn as I am to the arrangement of granite slabs, rich seams of moss clinging to shallow ledges, and rock faces patterned with lichens and pollen stains. Palette knife painting on stretched canvas (oil, 12 x 16 in).
Taken with my GoPro taped to a Freex drone that I aquired. Its a pretty messed up drone with lots of problems but it gets up in the air and lands without damaging the GoPro. Hopefully it doesn't just fly away one day! This is also a pano as I grabbed 2 frames from a 4K video and stitched them in Lightroom. Pretty great results I think for my first flight! Expect many aerials!
What you see in this image is Georgian Bay just by the entrance to the Trent-Severn Waterway that runs a system of lift locks through the center of Ontario. The large island with a road on it is called Potatoe Island and has a few houses on it.
