Seeing as it's been so cold and gloomy lately, I need something to remind me that we did have a summer this year. We found this cob and thatch cottage with its gorgeous fairy tale garden in the village of Eype, Dorset, England.

Cottage on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Crofton Railway crossing ( over the Reading to Taunton line)
Taken on a cold winter afternoon & desaturated..Although it was very monotone anyway with the winter light and lack of green
It's a cool cottage cause it's facing the west side. There's always a nice golden sunset in front of the doors :-)
Of course a lake, too. Fresh fish, fresh mushrooms (in the late summer) and fresh berries everyday. The nature provides indeed some nice food, that we usually dont eat everyday.
Todmorden, West Yorkshire.
There are lots old stone dwellings here in the Upper Calder Valley and this one is probably the best looking. Keeping all of it's original features, this cottage displays lots of charm belonging to a bygone age. Who wouldn't want to live here or maybe just have a sneaky peek inside?

On the Worcester & Birmingham Canal, this was in the middle of Tardebigge Locks near Bromsgrove comprising of 30 locks.
Continuing my tour of the lovely village of Smarden in Kent, England, this is another example of a half timbered cottage. Taken back in the spring, when the wisteria was just coming out.
No trip down Ocean Ave in Carmel is complete without a stop at the Cottage of Sweets. I recommend the fudge if you like chocolate. They also pride themselves on their licorace.Their collection include licorices from Australia, Finland, Germany, Holland, England, Italy and the USA. It includes soft, hard, chewy, sweet, bitter, salty and numerous different mixes. AND it smells sooo good in there.

Red roofed cottage - Clouds brewing above the Torridon Mountains with the iconic red roofed cottage sitting amongst the bracken and ferns on the shores of Loch Shieldaig.
Located on the Applecross Peninsula, this now iconic and often photographed cottage lies between the hamlets of Ardheslaig and Inverbain. The mountains in the distance with the weather closing in, surround Upper Loch Torridon.

A long-abandoned pastoral cottage in Victoria's sheep grazing district. Probably from around the 1870-80s it is now home to vermin, snakes and bees! However, good to see that the locals are keeping the front lawn mowed!
In this version I focused on the flowering tree. I think I prefer this more than the next one where I focused on the cottage. A bit more mystery maybe? Straight from camera, no processing apart from a small crop. (#272 Explore)
A view of the last cottage built - from bedroom to kitchen across living area. The glass on the left provides a view to the lake from the seating in this picture.
The Millers Cottage is on the grounds just feet away from Ballycopeland Windmill. It has been turned into a Visitors Centre now and there is a fully working model of the Windmill on display plus the history etc.
The Millers Cottage, the kiln and drying floor all still remain in their original positions at the site. It is also unique as the last remaining windmill in the world that retains the patented Hooper Roller Reefing gear, the system for operating the blinds on the sails on calmer days.
Here we are, your typical quaint, twee and I think, gorgeous English cottage garden
One note, the colour saturation of the flowers is untouched.
An abandoned cottage sits in a field with the Mourne Mountains behind, dramatically lit by the battling sun and rain clouds.
This picture postcard cottage is in the village of Skirmett. As I was metering in on the cottage itself, the sky was burnt out on the original RAW file but I rescued it when processing in Lightroom.

My twist on a cottage pie has carrots mixed into the mashed potato. I added nice spices to the mince and when I served there's some grated parmesan on top.
Black Rock Cottage lies at the foot of Meall a' Bhuird, Rannoch Moor, on the road up to the Glen Coe Mountain Resort, at the entrance to Glen Coe. It belongs to the Ladies Scottish Climbing Club. The cottage looks basic, but it has a fully equipped kitchen and an electric shower, and sleeps up to 10 people.
The cottage, with Buachaille Etive Mòr in the background, has become one of Scotland's iconic views and is an obligatory entry in every Scottish landscape photographer's portfolio.

I've seen a couple of shepherd's pies on Flickr in the last few days, so I decided todays dinner would be a similar dish, cottage pie (used minced beef)! Was slightly different, as I didn't mash the potatoes. Looks a bit messy, but I was quite pleased with the way it turned out and went down, lol!
Shepherds Pie is one the quickest and easiest supper dishes . Traditionally a Shepherd's Pie is made with ground lamb, and if using ground beef would be called a Cottage Pie but the recipe is the same for both.

The cottage from Törestorp, Åsenhöga, Småland, Sweden, was the first house bought by the open-air museum Apladalen after its foundation in 1920. The cottage is a so called "ryggåsstuga". A ryggåsstuga (there is, as far as I know, no proper English name for it, but it could be translated as something like "ridge cottage") denotes a single storey cottage which had no inner ceiling. This type of cottage was once the most common for the general, country-dwelling population, but in the 18th century it became less popular. This particular cottage can also be called a "kammarstuga" (chamber cottage) since two additional chambers have been added to the great room (one as a bedroom and one as a pantry).
The exact age of this particular cottage is not known, but it is supposed to be from the first half of the 18th century. This cottage is quite big and was most likely the home of a well-to-do farmer and his family. It was used as a home until about 1875 when it was turned into a shop for woodworking.
There is a ghost here. A lonely, heartbroken spirit. The ghost of everything that could've been and never was
Returned to Mountain Lake to our Family friends cottage. Once again the sunsets where unreal... More to follow.
This little stone cottage is on a route my family takes several times a year; for many years it has appeared to be vacant. Last week was the first time in a long while that the yard was mowed and clear enough to even try and get a shot. It appears to have been made from rocks from nearby creeks in Ripley County, Indiana.
