Spent the weekend at a friend's cottage in the Land O'Lakes (really...) region of Ontario. This is a beautiful part of Ontario - Lakes, rocks, pine trees, and ferocious bugs.

De Witt Cottage, also known as Holland Cottage and Wittenzand, is a historic home built in 1895, and is a two-story, "L" shaped oceanfront brick cottage surrounded on three sides by a one-story porch. It has Queen Anne style decorative detailing. It has a full basement and hipped roof with dormers. A second floor was added to the kitchen wing in 1917. The de Witt family continuously occupied the house as a permanent residence from 1909 to 1988.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

Since 1995 the cottage has been home to the Atlantic Wildfowl Heritage Museum. The museum displays include bird decoys, bird art and sculptures, vintage shotguns, hunting memorabilia, and a pictorial history of Virginia Beach.

This lovingly preserved Alsatian cottage sits right on one of the main streets in Village-Neuf, Alsace FR. I would really like to see how it looks inside, and how it is furnished. However, I can't think of any even remotely polite way to ask !

This is my take on this famous landmark and I know its an everyones took that shot before but I just couldn't resist. Black Rock Cottage is one of the most famous white painted buildings in the Scottish Highlands and is instantly recognisable from the many gifts and Scottish calendars that it appears on. Sitting proudly in front of the Buachaille Etive Mòr mountain in Glen Coe Black Rock Cottage will remains a firm favourite with photographers.

Cottage Garden

This is the cottage hideaway during the work week. I have been adding little touches to it - small lamps, vessels for flowers, lace hangings, and some things I have found in the garden and repurposed. From within these glass walls would be a wonderful place to compose if there was a piano. The whole piece can be viewed here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qXmrKcCKGo

I also ran across an independent musician's recording of this particular Satie composition. He was surprised at the midi notation afterward - it was in the shape of a heart. www.icompositions.com/music/uploads/530/31795Gnossienne_4...

This cottage was built in 1560 and stands in the grounds of Furzey Gardens in the New Forest. I have wanted to post a photo of a thatched cottage as there are quite a few in the New Forest, but because of modern life there is always a car parked outside or telephone wires and alarm systems to spoil the view:-) They certainly weren't built for big birds - I had to stoop to go through the doorways and bend double to go up the stairs - lol

Cute cottage in Upton, Ma.

I just love the fence, it made this A-dorable cottage look like it was wrapped in a basket. I love the door too. This little cottage was on the same country road as the horse farm. A little piece of heaven, I would say.

Whenever I'm in Christchurch I like to see what these creative owners have on display outside their cottage

- Swiss Cottage near the station bearing the same name. There was a craze in the 19th century to have a Swiss chalet. charles dickens bought one and had it shipped from Switzerland to put it together, it can be seen currently in Rochester / Kent.

This charming cottage dates from 1821 and is located on a bend in the mill stream in the Cotswold village of Lower Slaughter in Gloucestershire. The mill and its water wheel can be seen In the background on the opposite bank of the stream.

This cottage has sat uninhabited since March 11th 1965, after its owner - a 83 year old spinster - died from exposure nearby whilst trying to dig her way across the snow-covered moor with a fireside shovel.
