View from foot bridge to Collegetown leaving Cornell University campus.

Cornell.

A pretty big change from what I usually post. It isn't hdr-ed but the area around the window frame was PITCH black and I used the shadow highlight in Photoshop.

Just Married Action.

WIth huge snow shower, and strong wind, the snow gets blown into the hallway of the war memorial.

I met a fellow photographer (Daisy) who is a graduate astronomy student at Cornell. Other than showing me around to take pictures of some of the beautiful architecture on campus she was kind enough to let me pick her brain on cosmology and astronomy questions.

A beautiful night - in the mid 60's yesterday!

This was a panorama I stitched together from HDR images taken at the Arboretum. The Arboretum is located on North Campus, right by the plantations. I urge anyone passing through Ithaca to view the breathtaking landscape from the hill.

ODC-Fits In Your Hand

I found this cup sitting in the garage when we moved into the house. It's a Cornell University Coffee Mug. I love how it's shaped and it fits perfectly in my palm.

Day 129

Joseph Cornell (1903 – 1972)

Untitled (The Hotel Eden) c1945

Cornell made numerous boxed assemblages containing fragments of once beautiful and precious objects. An artist with no formal training, the boxes reflected his interests: the Soap Bubble Sets, the Medici Slot Machine series, the Pink Palace series, the Hotel series, the Observatory series, the Aviary series and the Space Object Boxes, among others. He was extremely well read and friendly with some Surrelaists who settled in the USA during WW2

Cornell University (pronounced /kɔrˈnɛl/ kor-nel) is an Ivy League university located in Ithaca, New York, United States. It is a private land-grant university, receiving annual funding from the State of New York for certain educational missions.[6] Founded in 1865 by Ezra Cornell and Andrew Dickson White, the university was intended to teach and make contributions in all fields of knowledge—from the classics to the sciences and from the theoretical to the applied. These ideals, unconventional for the time, are captured in Cornell's motto, an 1865 Ezra Cornell quotation: "I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study."[1] Since its founding, Cornell has also been a co-educational, non-sectarian institution where admission is offered irrespective of religion or race.

A founder of the greatest university, Cornell, stands immortalized in green copper patina overlooking "the Arts Quad" at the center of the original campus.

Ezra Cornell said he "would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study." He thought students should not only study in the traditional sense but also have paying jobs and volunteer their time to the local community, all at the same time. Modernly, Cornell Tradition Fellowships reward undergraduates who exemplify this practical, but challenging ideal. (I thank Howard and the late Joan Maisel for my own Cornell Tradition fellowship, which enriched my education for four years.)

Among other progressive positions, Cornell University admitted and graduated women at every level from its beginning, admitted students from any ethnicity, any nation, and any religion, and the university itself had no religious affiliation. Most of these positions have since become essential for serious educational institutions in the United States; for example, even the University of Notre Dame no longer favors Roman Catholics in admissions. Cornell's commitment to "any student" includes that admissions are "need-blind," meaning one's ability to pay tuition is not a criterion. Few schools can make that promise and of those who can, even fewer are willing. Committing to "any student" is a commitment to diversity.

There is one point of progress in which Cornell still stands alone. Cornell is both a State University of New York and an Ivy League school. As the only university comprised of both private and public colleges, Cornell's diversity is unrivaled. Traditional academia grows more fruitfully alongside the practical mission of the state and in the community of some of the world's best business, law, and medical schools. There is no better fulfillment of Ezra Cornell's vision for any student and any study.

A rousing health to Cornell: an emulated but unequaled experiment in education.

cornell is such a beautiful place to be. fall is just about over so i figured i'd get this up before winter fully sets in

Cornell University Campus in infrared...

This was taken last autumn when I spent a couple of weeks woring at Cornell University in upstate New York. The plantations is an amazing botanic garden right on the campus, where I whiled away a few hours looking at the plants, flowers, squirrels and chipmunks.
