#AbFav_MARCH

still cold, with hard rain and often stormy winds... interjected by a few sunny days full of hope and promise.

Slowly you see the earth come to life again, the grass turns greener and dashes of colour appear.

Our thick clothing replaced by more vibrant fabrics, boots discarded for daintier shoes.

We begin to feel 'lighter'?

We start to dream of summer, lol.

These are a smaller variety (a flower not much bigger than my thumbnail!), that I have in garden at the moment, I could not resist photographing them in the studio...

Thank you for viewing, M, (*_*)

Fanfreluches and frills…

It says ’specialty’ tulips on the wrapping…

Frayed, frilly edges like whipped cream on a raspberry sorbet.

Having fun in Studio Indigo, dancing to the latest music, LOL.

I wish you all the very best and thank you for all your kind words, time, comments, likes and faves. Very much appreciated. M, (*_*)

Trollius chinensis 'Golden Queen’.

Bright orange early summer flowers with yellow centres and deeply divided mid green leaves.

These cheery, buttercup-like flowers are perfect for the middle of a moist border or for planting at the margins of a pond or stream.

Small white Roses, I wanted them to keep their ‘air of mystery’.

Here together in the studio for your joy.

Most unusual, these bicoloured Rococo Parrot Tulips, flowers with twisted, irregularly fringed petals.

Even their leaves are wild and 'Baroque'.

They are weird even a little 'alien'?

Are they "monstrous beauty or beautiful monster"?

Love them or hate them, Parrot Tulips are Spring's grand (bulb) showcase, big and beautiful, they have flamboyant flowers with streaks, ruffles and frayed edges.

Have a glorious day and thank you, M, (*_*)

OF ORANGE CUPS and YELLOW FROCKS… DAFFODILS

read all about them, LOL.

The daffodil serves as the national flower of Wales. One species, Narcissus obvallaris, grows only in a small area around Tenby. In Wales it is traditional to wear a daffodil on Saint David's Day (March 1).

The flower is a common decoration flower during Chinese New Year.

March 1: The Sharp Days

This was considered the first day of the year in Venice and in Russia until the fourteenth century. It was also the first day of the Ottoman financial year.

The Greeks say that good weather begins on March 1st. Supposedly, a thread left out overnight on a rosebush, then tied around the wrist or big toe will protect the wearer and is worn until Easter Day. St John Chrysostom complained of this custom (see March 22) and that of tying bells on children to protect them.

In the Dodecanese and elsewhere, children go around with the effigy of a swallow singing a song in honour of the bird and the fine weather it brings and asking for food offerings. This custom derives from ancient Rhodes.

The first three days of March are called Sharp Days: One should not wash clothes (for they will wear out), chop wood (or it will rot) or bathe (for one's hair will fall out).

Various Cancer Societies around the world use the Daffodil as fundraising symbol. "Daffodil Days" are organised to raise funds by offering the flowers in return for a donation.

I could not resist photographing those orange and yellow mini trumpets, challenging as they were!

Have a fine day and thank you for your support, M, (*_*)

à deux, the one bud seems to dominate a bit...

This is the second flowering as each stem gives two flowers, as the first one 'dies' the next bud starts to open.

Fallen Rose petals, slowly they start shrivelling up.

Potpourri is a mixture of dried, naturally fragrant plant material, used to provide a gentle natural scent, commonly in residential settings.

It is often placed in a decorative bowl or tied in small sachet made from sheer fabric.

The word "potpourri" comes into English from the French word potpourri.

The word was taken and copied by the French military during the Napoleonic occupation of Burgos (1808-1813), where is a kind of stew.

The word pot in French has the same meaning as it does in Spanish and English, while the word pourri means rotten.

straight from my garden.

The sepals are the 'protection' they keep the tender petals together until they are ready, ready to bursting beauty.

I find the back of flowers often as fascinating as the front. LOL

La globalizzazione ed il capitalismo snaturano e trasformano gli esseri umani in mutanti.

the globalization and the capitalism denaturalize and turn the human beings into mutants

I uploaded the seedpod a few days ago… what happened next?

Due to the heat given off by the lights in the studio, the pods started to open and the pod opened and released the seeds.

Hundreds of seeds fluffing from that one pod. In a matter of minutes all of the seeds floated out of the pod.

Once the process of release started, it could not be stopped.

I loved shooting this small miracle of nature in my studio.

Gomphocarpus fruticosus: Asclepias fruticosa is the old botanical name, Narrowleaf cotton bush, Swan bush, Swan milkweed the popular ones.

Here: the seedbox/seeds

Inflated green and later light brown, papery pod or follicle; short bristly hair cover the outer surface; dark seeds have silvery cotton wool-like attachments that facilitate wind distribution.

Asclepias fruticosa is a species of milkweed native to South Africa.

It is also common in New Zealand where it is the main host of the monarch butterfly.

The plant's tissues contain sufficient cardenolides that consumption of significant quantities of the plant's leaves, stems, or fruit may lead to death in livestock and humans.

Brought this from Sardinia to photograph in my studio.

Thanx for your comments and time, M, (*_*)

a small bud and two beautiful blooms.

The Peony is indigenous to China, but was imported to Japan so early it is difficult to be certain when the transplantation occurred. It is a perennial plant with single flowers of white, red, hot pink or pale pink, which are born in late spring.

The peony was originally introduced as medicine. In fact, its ancient Japanese name "Ebisugusuri" literally means ‘medicine from China’. However, due to its beautiful and now mostly double blooms, in time, many decorative varieties were developed. In Japanese society, it was seen both as a medicine and a source of beauty.

Two, bloom and a bud, just about to erupt!

Iceland Poppies, I love them, these are from my garden.

The petals are quite sheer, and very tender, indeed like butterfly wings. Their colours so vibrant, raindrops clinging on, yes, they were thrashed about by strong winds, a little damaged.

The colourful poppy, with tissue-paper petals on thin hairy, wiry stems

Cultivars come in shades of yellow, orange, salmon, rose, pink, cream and white as well as bi-coloured varieties.

Papaver nudicaule, the Iceland poppy also called Arctic poppy, is a boreal flowering plant.

Native to sub-polar regions of Europe, Asia and North America, and the mountains of Central Asia, (but not in Iceland)…

this one had a ’special’ inner light.

Don’t you just love Ranunculus, the multi-layered blooms opened beautifully, not always evident, the petals so paper-thin and their stems are often extremely delicate and do tend to just collapse before the bud can open into a gorgeous voluptuous bloom...

I had to shoot her as she came, as not long ago she discovered the joy of running... she loved the studio, tripped over cables, got entangled in the bg, refused to sit, hihi, let alone pose?

She had a lot of fun, at the end of the session... I WAS KNACKERED,

AAhh the joys of being a photographer... lol, thanks, M, (*_*)

I declare February LOVE, romance and beauty month.

This bloom of Hydrangea turned into lace... skeletal... beautiful and delicate. I gently brought it in.

The flower spoke to me of essence, the spine; I thought of an Autumn bride, all things romantic.

Dried Tulips.

Sometimes some flowers will lose their petals while others will just ‘mummify’ in the warmth of the studio conditions.

I know that some people are not keen on decay and that others love it.

But here I saw such beauty still, in the shapes and the colours.

Another of my personal favourites.
