Focus and colors - Smaller Thank a coin - Macro Mondays Theme

Clockwork Cufflinks on antique coins.

HMM! Smaller than a Coin

In Ancient Greek tradition, coins would be placed over the eyes of the dead so they would be able to pay the toll to Charon, ferryman of the River Styx. Occasionally the coins would be placed in the mouth instead.

I know this isn't for everyone but I shot it for round 1 of F64 Challenge: www.flickr.com/groups/flickr64challenge/discuss/721576804...

“In the business world, everyone is paid in two coins: cash and experience. Take the experience first; the cash will come later.”

The weather has been much to warm for February. Temp on this day was 65 degrees. My guess is this fellow is in the spread eagle position in an effort to keep cool. Would appreciate input from some of my birder friends. In my opinion, the pose would look great on a coin...

Bit of fun in my room. I Couldn't think of many ideas but I think this worked out quite nice.

I happened to find one and three more came my way soon after. They were all shiny and reflective but that shine would soon be gone. I wanted to preserve that in this photo.

Some years ago I received as a token this one dollar coin from my teacher in Chicago. Does any one know who is that woman with a baby on the coin? It is so nice thing that I changed it to be the necklace.

Now I got the story of the woman. My American friend told it. Here it is:

The woman on the coin is Saca-tzah-we-yaa...she was a representative of the Shoshoni Nationality. Around 1800, U.S. President Thomas Jefferson sent a team of U.S. explorers to cross North America for the first time. In those days, the United States was a lot smaller - and no one had explored the middle and west of the continent.

The team was lead by Lewis and Clark. They set out on foot from the Mississippi River. Along the way hey relied on the Original Peoples for help - they had never met these Nationalities before. When they passed through the territory of the Shoshoni Nationality, Sacajawea volunteered to lead the Americans all the way to the ocean. And she did. She lead them across the mountains, all the way to the ocean, and then back home again. Thousands of miles. A woman with a baby on her back.

When the Original Peoples were interviewed later, they said that the main reason they didn't attack the Americans on sight is that there was a free woman with them, which proved they weren't a warband.

Some old coins mounted on sticks in a display case at the Tasmania Museum and Art Gallery, casting lollypop-like shadows. The text description is blurred in the foreground.

"Do you need these coins?" Tyrone asks. "I need five dollars for them." I explained that I do not need the coins. "Well," he says. "I walked a long way to get here. Do you have car?" (Captured in Munster, IN)
