THIS IS A FIRE RAINBOW - THE RAREST OF ALL NATURALLY OCCURRING ATMOSPHERIC PHENOMENA.

CLOUDS HAVE TO BE CIRRUS, AT LEAST 20K FEET IN THE AIR, WITH JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF ICE CRYSTALS AND THE SUN HAS TO HIT THE CLOUDS AT PRECISELY 58 DEGREES.

Thanks to mariamiller18 for finding this cool tidbit above.

I've seen this phenomena maybe 4x since I've taken up photography but this is my best capture. It must be from a rainbow but it looks more like its shaped with the cloud. I just think its mesmerizing. Used a circular polarizer to bring out the details.

A shelf cloud developed over Airdrie on August 7th, 2014. Here, I caught it rolling in. Later catching up with John Andersen.

Pretty amazing ones (Lenticular Clouds)

Perranuthnoe beach last weekend. I love the way the receding waves uncover the cloud reflected in the wet sand. Blowing a gale here, but still no snow!

Noticed this fantastic looking cloud last night, then a quick dash around to find something to shoot against it.

Wonderful light and clouds at Perranuthnoe Beach yesterday morning. I had to wait quite a while for the tide to recede, revealing the wet sand underneath, and fortunately the clouds gathered in rather nice formations for me!

It has been 15 years since last time I came here with my family. Hehuan Mountain is the hometown of clouds. Its height is 3417 meters. I drive with my family by my SUV to here today. The weather here is about 3°C . I know many countries are even colder than this in the ordinary winter days but for us living in the subtropical climate area which is very very cold. The Chinese Lunar Year is coming at 19th,02,2015. I wish all of you a lucky, healthy and happy Lunar New Year.

Have a happy Fence Friday and a great weekend.

Went out for a really long walk today through the woods and fields. The ground was sodden and really muddy and I had to wade my way through in places, but the sun was shining and the clouds looked fantastic and I had a great time. It took me almost 3 hours to get to this point, but it was well worth it. I got a few decent shots, but this was my favourite. After all the rain and snow, it was nice to see some sunshine!

I hope everyone is well and enjoying their photography :)

I thought you might enjoy this one from this morning's shoot at Merewether Beach, NSW; Australia.

Some nice stormclouds hanging above the horizon, plus a little sunrise glow, add rocks, waves and a couple of coal ships and here we have it..........

Have a terrific weekend folks!!!

Clouds are fluffy, puffy things

That drift across the sky

They fill our eyes with fairy tales

Whenever they pass by

Some look like boats and sailing ships

Sometimes a swan or queen

The sky is full of fantasy

It's nature's movie screen

Come see the many magic scenes

In heaven demonstration

It only takes a glance on high

And your imagination

Gortmore Panorama, 18 images stitched to make a panoramic image looking from Binevenagh on the left to the end of the Innishowen Peninsula on the right. The hills of Donegal protrude above the clouds in the distance. Cloud covered the whole area of Magilligan below Gortmore - something I believe is called "Cloud Inversion." I have seen images of this before, but this is my 1st capture of it.

I have no idea of the meteorological reasons for it but it was great to see it, even if it was a little strange hearing life go on below and not being able to see it.
