The water is amazing and the beach front is beautiful at Waikiki Beach. I wish I was there now to enjoy the sunshine!
I had retired my superzoom lens for almost two years, but suddenly felt like getting some of these cityscape shots again. The compression of 200mm is quite lovely, especially when shooting low-aerial.
Havana is Cuba’s capital city. Spanish colonial architecture in its 16th-century Old Havana core includes the Castillo de la Real Fuerza, a fort and maritime museum. The National Capitol Building is an iconic 1920s landmark. Also in Old Havana is the baroque Catedral de San Cristóbal and Plaza Vieja, whose buildings reflect the city’s vibrant architectural mix.
Vintage American cars line the city’s streets and rumba groups play in the painted alley Callejón de Hamel. Salsa emanates from clubs and cabaret is performed at the famed Tropicana. In Centro Habana, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes displays Cuban art, the stately Gran Teatro presents ballet and theater, and the Museo de la Revolución inhabits the former presidential palace. Along the water is the Malecón promenade and Playas del Este beaches. Just east of Havana in San Francisco de Paula is Finca Vigia, the former home (now a museum) of the writer Ernest Hemingway.

For the past two years I've followed Josh Hartman's photography. He grew up down the street. While only slightly older than my kids, he is already on his 2nd career. First a school teacher and now a professional wedding photographer.
Josh's dad, Mark is a good friend of mine and the three of us went on a day-long Chicago cityscape shoot. After Christmas we went to the Shedd Aquarium for a full day shoot.
I have to say that Josh's energy and passion for photography far eclipses anything that I've seen so far. He will go far. Look for Hartman Outdoor Photography on Facebook and their website.
As for this shot, Josh let me use his 50mm f1.2L. Fantastic lens!!! The vantage point is a classic Chicago skyline shooting location. I did a stitch from the same spot in the summer of 2012. This photo is a stitch of four photos. The curve is the way the shoreline goes so I did not attempt to straighten it.
Photos shot from the roof top of Vue Bar, Hyatt. Annoying part was they didn't allow tripods but allowed cameras.

Reached #138 on Explore, April 30th, 2011.
Today, I arrived in New York city, though just for the day. I was here on business, so I did not have a lot of time to explore or see many places, but I did have time to do one thing – get to the top of the Empire State Building – and man, was it worth it. I have never before had such a breathtaking view, I literally felt like I was on top of the world. Strangely, one thing ran through my mind while I was up here, and it was Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" song. Before today, I could never relate to the lyrics, since I had never been here before, but now I can see and feel the meaning of the song.
New York is an inspiring city, it truly is the capital of the world.
