Misha and I decided to go out for a walk on a (rarely seen!) sunny summer day to discover the city we live it. Came across this relatively small church the sun at the perfect angle.

Holy Trinity Church in Eccleshall; Staffordshire.

Bodie is a spectacular Ghost town in California. It's not far from Mono Lake and we really enjoyed our stay there. You can spend a whole day to see all the interesting all buildings. You may think, that people left this town just a view minutes ago.

Driving by, I saw this very typical icelandic church and the rainbow. Iceland is not only land of the waterfalls but there are also a lot of rainbows.

OK...so I have a thing about this church. Just this one church...found in Iceland. This is a favorite image, very unusual for me. I have no idea why all this orange arranged itself into to my convoluted imagination...

The church at Locust Grove was built in 1895 and last used for a funeral in 1914.

Wijnjewoude, Friesland The Netherlands

The church goes all the way back to the thirtheenth century.

The original architecture is Romance with Gothic influences!

Oude Friezen.

The church hosted several coronation ceremonies, royal weddings and baptisms and witnessed many turbulent events of Buda.

The Roman Catholic church, also known as Church of Our Lady (Nagyboldogasszony templom), was founded by King Béla IV. after the Mongol invaders left Hungary in 1242.

Not much remained of the original building due to numerous expansions, wars and reconstructions.

Priory Church of St. Mary, Bridlington, commonly known as Bridlington Priory Church is a parish church in Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England,

It is on the site of an Augustinian Roman Catholic priory founded in 1113.At the English Reformation Henry VIII was asked to spare it due to the the shrine of St John of Bridlington, but in vain.

The priory was dissolved in 1537 by Henry VIII during the Dissolution of the Monasteries.

All the buildings were destroyed except the Nave which became the parish church (Church of England).

I took a lot of photos of rural churches, but I will only post two of them.

At just over a 1,000 miles away from home (as the crow flies) this church was to me the pinnacle of our trip. This photo was probably the best one I got of it in color with my new 60D. Color is more difficult for me than black and white so any color tweaking advice is welcome. I tried not to over do it and and not to under do it.

Built 1888. One of my favorite churches in Montreal. Such beautiful architecture.

The church at Edale is dedicated to the Holy and Undivided Trinity and was built in 1885-86 to a design by William Dawes of Manchester. It is aisleless and has a broach spire completed in 1889. A chapel did not exist here before and there was a time when villagers had to go to Castleton church and even carry their dead via Hollins Cross to be buried.

St. Mary's Church in the village of Steeple Ashton, Wiltshire, UK. Although only a village, Steeple Ashton was a prosperous place in the 15th. century and this magnificent church was built between 1420 and 1500. This was the third church on this site but the steeple which gave the village its name was on the second church. The current church also had a steeple at one time but it was destroyed by lightning in 1670. Two men, who had been repairing the steeple after a previous lightning strike, were killed and the steeple was never rebuilt. With the steeple in place the church was 57 metres high.

I also took a picture of the inside.

This church was first mentioned in the 13th century. In 1367 there was a terrible fire, and the current building was built between 1451 and 1470.

Was officially opened on 7th September 1738 and is one of Norway’s best preserved churches from the Baroque period. The church is richly decorated by Erik Wallin in 1740-45. Knut Haugland was the former guide in the church and has written the book about Sollia church. He died 87 years old, and was guiding till his last year. A youger citizen of the Sollia community has now taken over the guide service (must be ordered in advance, unless joining Venabu's guided tours on Friday afternoons in summer).

The history of how the area was first settled by four families and their treks across the mountains to the church in Ringebu prior to the building of Sollia church is a fascinating story, even to those not usually keen on church visits!!

It’s a story of the determination of one man and a local population following tragic deaths in the mountains.
