Cattle grazing in a field of buttercups,

Holsteins (also known as Holstein-Friesians) are a breed of cattle known today as the world's highest-production dairy animals. Originating in Europe, Friesians were bred in what is now the Netherlands and more specifically in the two northern provinces of North Holland and Friesland, and northern Germany, more specifically what is now Schleswig-Holstein.

The Cattle Egret is a stocky heron with a relatively short thick neck, a sturdy bill, and a hunched posture. The non-breeding adult has mainly white plumage, a yellow bill and greyish-yellow legs.

With his neck retracted he rather looks like Montgomery Burns on The Simpsons

Thank you for your comments and faves – they are greatly appreciated!

The Cattle Egret is a cosmopolitan species of Heron, it is stocky, with a relatively short thick neck, sturdy bill, and a hunched posture. This species maintains a special relationship with cattle, which extends to other large grazing mammals. The cattle egret removes ticks and flies from cattle and consumes them. This benefits both species, but it has been implicated in the spread of tick-borne animal diseases. I took this shot on a wet and miserable day, but the light was perfect for taking photos.

These youngsters still have a little green grass in their pasture close to the River Exe plus all they need to drink right beside them.

Just arrived home from almost 2700km trip that took in some of the driest areas in the state, but guess what..It had rained, & the place was so green & alive.

The Cattle Egret averages 17-21 inches in length with a wingspan just over three feet. Often observed feeding in open pastures & fields away from water. Follows grazing animals and tractors, feeding on disturbed insects.

Distinguished from the Great Egret & White Heron by its much smaller size, from immature Little blue Herons by having an orange bill.

In the United States, they are common year-round in Florida.

I found this one at Dinner Island Ranch WMA in Hendry County, Florida.

From a superb visit to one of the nicest beaches/coves in Cornwall - Kynance Cove. I liked this shot because the cows seemed so out of place on the top of the cliff facing the popular coastline.
