Only counting movies I saw for the first time. Faves: 12... tentatively. Best: Emptying the skies! Göteborg International Film Festival movies: 10… (6 of which were docus.) A seemingly unavoidable consequence of reading about almost each of the 500 movies in the programme. %D (And I marked way more than 10.)

WARNING: LIST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!

25-Jan-2014: 1. The invisible woman

Aaaaaaaand Ralph Fiennes showed up to talk about his movie. x) Our festival isn't chopped liver. 8)

27-Jan-2014: 2. Skytten (a.k.a. ”The shooter”)

Fave! Danish thriller about an eco-terrorist.

27-Jan-2014: 3. Regnbågens sång (a.k.a. ”A rainbow song”)

Fave! Documentary on what being gay could be like in the olden days.

28-Jan-2014: 4. Ruin

Slow and boring romantic drama that mostly seemed to wanna wallow in its artsy cinematography. Two rapists received treatment, though. :D One with a knife, one with a brick! :)

29-Jan-2014: 5. As the palaces burn

31-Jan-2014: 6. Alcan highway

Docu. Finnish dude buys an ancient and adorable Alaskan truck, fixes it up, attaches an Airstream (*le sigh*…) to the back, and drives 4000 km to Vancouver Island.

1-Feb-2014: 7. Emptying the skies

Fave! Docu. SAD! Here’s a description from IMDB: ”Based on a magazine essay written by noted best-selling novelist Jonathan Franzen for 'The New Yorker' and widely republished around the world, 'Emptying the Skies' chronicles the rampant poaching of migratory songbirds in southern Europe. Songbird populations have been drastically declining for several decades, and a number of species face extinction imminently. The film explores the wonder of these tiny globe-flying marvels, millions of which are unlawfully slaughtered each year for large sums on the black market, and follows an intrepid squad of pan-European bird-lovers who risk their lives waging a secret war against poachers, disrupting illegal trapping and freeing as many birds as possible. Jonathan Franzen is executive producer of and featured in the film.”

2-Feb-2014: 8. Angered United

Docu about a girls' football team in a non-fancy part of Gothenburg. I couldn't find a proper poster for it so I threw something together using a promo pic. Fun fact: The pic was taken down the street from where I used to live! (Hjällbo.)

2-Feb-2014: 9. Two raging grannies (a.k.a. ”Shirley & Hinda”)

Fave! Must-see docu. Click here for the trailer! Two old ladies start reading up on infinite (hoho…) economic growth and meet with some experts, who explain how dumb the idea is. After sneaking into a fancy NYC financier party, one of the ladies starts yelling “WHY DO WE HAVE TO KEEP GROWING?!?!?!” For this, a nametag-less guard threatens her severely on the sly. What’re you scared of, guard… Did she have a point or something? ((:D

3-Feb-2014: 10. Of horses and men (a.k.a. ”Hross í oss”)

Icelandic drama. Starts out with a dude riding to visit his friend. On the way home, the friend's stallion seduces dude's mare. (Pictured.) Dude gallops home and shoots mare in the head. Immediately regrets it. Then some other stuff happens. :|

6-Feb-2014: 11. Twin sisters

Documentary about identical twins, adopted from China to northern Norway and Sacramento, respectively. The families keep in touch and the sisters are BFF. Eventually the Americans visit Norway and get some fresh air in their system. :B

I almost saw it at the film festival, but had to skip it due to scheduling problems… A couple of weeks later it aired on TV. Yea! (Not that I have a TV, but my folks do…)

7-Feb-2014: 12. The reader

28-Aug-2014: 38. What if

Romantic comedy. (Starring teh Danrad.) As usual I couldn’t identify with characters wishing NOT TO BE SINGLE FOREVER, but! The movie was still funny due to its unique, sick dialogue. o_O

26-Dec-2014: 56. Team America: World police

It’s not like everything you learn at Politician Academy is legit either. *COUGH* infinite growth *COUGH* And it might interest you to know that conflicts do increasingly get solved by Pussy talk. :)

29-Dec-2014: 57. Idiocracy

Fave!? I heard about it years ago… Probably from Rob Sheridan in 2008. :) ”Brawndo the Thirst Mutilator had come to replace water virtually everywhere. Water, the basic component of all life, had been deemed a threat to Brawndo's profit margin. The solution came during the budget crisis of 2330, when the Brawndo corporation simply bought the FDA and the FCC, enabling them to say, do, and sell anything they wanted...” <:D

13-Feb-2006: 12. High fidelity

At the time I don't think I noticed it much. I rewatched it in 2013!!! after my ancient crush on John Cusack flared up. Well, the main characters are that type (I guess) who can't enjoy singlehood and therefore are happy to swim forever through relationship drama shit. I still (...) can't identify with that :D but at least the movie is quite funny. (EspeciallywhentheybeatTimRobbinstodeaththriceover.) And IINM, it is a study in hipsterdom... although maybe it was made before hipster hate became a thing. :) PS. I haven't read the book, but the movie is said to be better? :q

7-Apr-2006: 16. Blue juice

This is the kind of movie whose cover makes it look like Ewan McGregor is the lead guy when he actually isn't. :B Also, Zeta-Jones had to be scantily clad even though the movie was set in some cloudy cold British coastal village. Yeah.

9-Apr-2006: 17. Wit

Gonna re-watch. Emma Thompson vs terminal cancer.

12-Apr-2006: 18. The chronicles of Narnia: The lion, the witch and the wardrobe

20-Oct-2006: 33. Lost in translation

My journal sayeth: "Another movie about people enjoying small talk, and laughing charmingly. But a bit cute. I want to toss Scarlett to a stylist who styles her into a 1940's star."

3-Nov-2006: 34. Green Street hooligans

Gríma is the coolest LOTR character! (Well, along with Shadowfax, and the Ringwraiths, and their horses, and Asfaloth (sp)... :B )

Below is my excessively detailed fan report because that’s how I like them. :D It’s out of my journal, slightly censored + horribly translated.

March 2, 2008 = sci-fi convention in my hometown, but I’m not obsessed with any of the guests, so I stroll in on the second day:

”… As I walked towards the entrance, I thought about the fact that if Brad had been there, I would of course had gone to the con both Saturday and Sunday so I wouldn’t miss any Q&A sessions and whatnot. Then, one second before I paid for my ticket, I spotted a few con posters nearby, and I looked at them and…

GRÍMA!?!?!?

MALMÖ, APRIL 5-6!!! OMFG I’M TAKING THE S.A.T. ON APRIL 5!!! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!! Should I cancel that? And I fucking hope I get time off from work on April 6, at least… I fucking should, right. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. BRAD!!!

Maybe he’ll cancel but…

SHIT!!!

I glided around in there, mostly dying, and texting C.A., until C.G. texted that she had arrived. I approached the entrance, and had just finished a text when she walked by. She sort of recognized Brad.”

This is the holy April 6, beginning just after I step off the bus in Malmö:

”… I couldn’t find any correct street names within one second, but still easily found my way to the convention center. The building was grotesquely big, with Turning Torso [a hip skyscraper] in the background. I tried to shoot them, and the photo turned out… abnormally dark and weird? HAD THE FUCKING CAMERA SEMI-BROKEN DOWN ON ME BIG DAY?!?!?! [Indeed it had, after 2 years and a bazillion shots – good news was, if you used the flash, the pics still came out normal.] But no – I tried it in the corridor leading to the con, and the fucker worked again. Ahhh. I replaced the half-empty (?) batteries just in case. And entered the CON… By the far wall were the stars; I came in from (my) right and at the far end I saw the Brad sign, and then a glimpse of SOMEONE before someone else between us momentarily blocked my view… BUT I HAD INDEED GLIMPSED BRAD!!! Gasp!

I didn’t walk up to him right away. Btw, I’d accidentally left my phone in my jacket, so I extra-bothered the cloakroom attendant because of that. I needed a clock [my watch was borked], and if C.A. were to text me about some siggy… (She never did.) So. I walked around a bit, and looked to see if Brad bit his fans or something… Although there wasn’t any good place where one could stand and stare dreamily without being exposed as a creepy stalker. (Well, late in the day it occurred to me that I could stand behind a DVD rack, which worked like quite the hideout.) I found a big fat booth with all the stickers and patches in the world, and spent 300 years looking for Nine Inch Nails ones, DUH!! Well, at last I asked the seller (who was American) and he DID have a bunch of Nine Inch Nails stuff! Apparently everything was in alphabetical order… BOINK… but wasn’t? Well, I got a normal logo, ahhhh… Black on white. And a wine red Art Is Resistance flag! /…/

Anyway, eventually I started Geronimo-walking towards the Brad table, and the people at the front of the line disappeared before I was done dealing with the helper guy. Shit. Btw, I mentioned to him that my name is spelled with an F, so by the time I thought of Common Mistake #2 I didn’t dare nag about it again, hehe. Whatever. Then… GULP… I turned to…

ARGH…

BRAD!!! Guess I said ‘HI, THANKS FOR COMING’ or something, and extended my hand (camera attached; it thundered into the table, nevermind…), and he took it and sort of kept holding it, hehe, while I squealed ‘I’VE WAITED LIKE 3 YEARS FOR YOU TO COME HERE [OMG OMG LIKE OMG]!!!’ I don’t remember his answer to that, but he probably found it hugely impressive after hearing 10000 people scream that they’d loved him since… before ‘One flew over the cuckoo’s nest’. Aye. Today. Then again, it was a bit difficult to wait for ANYONE before I learned of the con’s existence… 4 years ago. Ehe.

But hey, my mom said I might be taken for a 15-year-old, and, um, perhaps I wasn’t allowed to watch scary Brad movies before the age of 12, hehehe.

Sniffle. Well, I asked him if this was his first time in Sweden. ‘Yes.’ ‘Cool…’ [Only because I fail at thinking of things to say. :| ] I panic-picked some Gríma print (one I had ALWAYS IMAGINED, ACTUALLY!!!) and he signed it, in gold:

‘To Josefin

Brad Dourif

Grima’

And before I squealed off, he said ‘Have a LOVELY day.’ I wuz liek ‘You too!’

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

MY FACE WAS BURNING!!!

*pant*

I texted C.A., who didn’t reply. Mhm. Well, after that, at various points throughout the day, I ran up to the other stars (Lorenzo Lamas, Doug Bradley, and Andy Secombe) and got handshakes and neat pics [not ACTUALLY neat, flash-free studio shots that is, just neat compared to some distant, grainy con-shots I’ve taken in the past…], but not in the case of Mads Mikkelsen.

And… in the midst of it all… I got myself a get-photographed-with-Brad ticket. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. It’s BRAD, dammit! His photo session was at 2; he’d just returned from his break and passed like one meter behind me. Eventually some kind of queue formed; I was somewhere in the middle maybe. Handshake when I got there and when I left! And he asked how I was and stuff. (And the photographer took care of my distracting ugly yellow folder during the shooting.) Afterwards, I remained in the vicinity, ogling as the rest of the fans got their pictures taken with Brad. /…/

I left relatively early, after staring towards Brad one last (?) time from behind the DVD rack… The Gothenburg bus left at 6.30.”

THE END! :B

Extremely cool actor! And he was fan-friendly too! :) I had waited 3 years for him to attend a con near me. Malmö is just a 3-4 h bus ride away, SO... :D Eh, I probably made an arse out of myself AS ALWAYS.

THE END! :B

Gun to my head, this image may be my favorite film poster of all time. Partially because the painting is incredible and chilling (if anyone knows the artist, please let me know), but also because this was one of the first images of horror that I was exposed to as a child. When I was 6 or 7, this poster hung in my local mom and pop video store, which was walking distance from my house. It scared the hell out of me, and I was immediately sucked in. I begged my parents to let me rent it, but that was the few early years that my parents tried to be “good” parents. They eventually didn’t care what we watched. Their compromise was to tape an edited version of it off television. That tape was my holy grail for several years (until I actually bought the rental copy when the store sadly went out of business years later). I wish I still had it. The commercials on it are probably amazing. ANYWAY, I couldn’t find a clean version of this anywhere online, so I took a scanned VHS box and cleaned it up, redid the red text, printed it out, got a thrift store frame for a buck and voila. Looks awesome. Once my Good Guy doll arrives this month, I’m going to have to make a display area. I’m ready, Chucky! #childsplay #chucky #charlesleeray #goodguy #goodguys #goodguydoll #horror #halloween #braddourif

Child's Play 2 (1990)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhFgcPLEtJY

Andy Barclay has been placed in a foster home after the tragic events of the first film, since his mother was committed. In an attempt to save their reputation, the manufacturers of Chucky reconstruct the killer doll, to prove to the public that nothing was wrong with it in the first place. In doing so, they also bring the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray back to life. As Chucky tries to locate Andy, the body count rises. Will Andy be able to escape, or will Chucky succeed in possessing his body?

This private residence in the city of Los Angeles was a primary location for the 2004 low budget slasher flick "The Hazing" (top) also known as "Dead Scared".

This home is located at 3115 W Adams Blvd, Los Angeles.

Chucky and his hot little bride.

Sometimes I forget that the 3DS has Netflix capabilities. #NowWatching, "Child's Play 2" (1990), starring Brad Dourif.

Here's a thought. Perhaps Chucky grows a few inches taller every new film? He's certainly taller and bulkier in comparison to the original. However, even with the previously released film, Curse of Chucky, the killer doll still stands under four feet tall.

At this point, it's like witnessing a grown man with a shortman complex realize that he's made a mistake for picking a fight with a child that's larger than he is.

Hehe... :D

Gríma is the coolest LOTR character! (Well, along with Shadowfax, and the Ringwraiths, and their horses... :B )

I made an art.

Brad Dourif 4eva.

(My own personal mojo) The proportions are off, the likeness is awful, I used hot glue instead of thread....but I made the voodoo doll from the original Child’s Play. Everything about it is all wrong, but it should look cool with my life sized Good Guy doll (when they ship out) #childsplay #chucky #horror #halloween #craft #vintagehalloween #vhs #drdeath #braddourif #kevinyagher #singlelife #brideofchucky #chrissarandon #catherinehicks #voodoo #voodoodoll @yagherfx
