Lightning strikes Toronto's CN Tower during an electrical storm.
NOTE: This is not a PhotoShop simulation. I've received a couple of emails and comments suggesting that this is an altered image. It is not. It's an actual thunderstorm and that really is lightning.
Lightning hitting the CN Tower is not an unusual occurrence. According to a study by researchers at Ryerson University and the University of Toronto, the CN Tower is struck by lightning more frequently than any other structure in Toronto - roughly 40 to 50 times annually.

One very short glimpse of the spectacular show the sky had to offer yesterday (24-25/10) in Athens. More than 8 hours of continuous lightning activity. Several active cells 360o, all across the horizon. Didn't know where to shoot first. The night begun with a supercell and a funnel, lots of hail in some areas. Fireballs, damaging lightning, bolts from the blue inside the city, etc! More than 1600 photos to process. More to come in the next days. Typical Autumnal storms to fall in love with. When at the Wetlands last night, I spotted this large bolt on one of the water control wheels.
Baker Wetlands,
Lawrence (Douglas County), KS.
As night fell the storm moved toward the city and I was able to capture this bolt right over downtown!
Photographs shot in the studio with light painting. You can see more photos I've done this way on my site at www.haroldrossfineart.com.
I've had such a positive response and inquiries on how to create images like these that I will be giving Light Painting Workshops throughout the year. If you are interested in attending please visit Harold Ross Light Painting Workshops for more details.

Door bolt on a stall at a horse farm near Flint, Michigan. The only light came from an open barn door about 50 meters away.
Best viewed large.
As of 17 November 2005, flickr rates this as my #1 most interesting photo.
The sliding bolt on the large doors of Al Jaheli Fort, Al Ain, (pictures in my photo stream) a little tonal contrast added with Nik Colour effex pro.
A bolt is a unit of measurement used as an industry standard for a variety of materials from wood to canvas, typically materials stored in a roll. The length is usually either 40 or 100 yards, but varies depending on the fabric being referred to, for example, a bolt of canvas is traditionally 39 yards. The width of a bolt is usually 45 or 60 inches, but widths may include 35–36”, 39”, 41”, 44–45”, 50”, 52–54", 58–60” and 66”, 72", 96", and 108".
