Thank you to Anne for the suggestion :-)

Victor, CO - Perhaps it was my posting of an image from Victor yesterday that encouraged me to take another trip. When I got there it was snowing, a reminder that winter has not quite left the mountains. I couldn't help but feel a bit sad over the condition of this house, abandoned and with broken out windows. It must have really been something when it was built, sitting high above the town of Victor atop gold mines and with amazing views to the south and east ...

PS - That mountain of rock in the background is from one of the world's largest gold mining operations - The Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company

This is the back of a harbour-front building in Wells, Norfolk. The building is an old granary used for malting. It has been converted into flats now.

From the archives. Having previously posted a slightly different view of this magnificent cathedral in B&W, I decided to leave this just as it came out of the camera (other than a tiny crop).

No problem, the tails are wagging but based on what you see, it would seem that bigger is better.

In Norse mythology, Thor is a hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, lightning, storms, strength, destruction, fertility, healing and the protection of mankind. Whomever began calling this wonderful abyss in the sea at Cape Perpetua Thor's Well is a genius, for a well is exactly what it looks like. The well is a challenge to photograph, as tide levels and swells need to be just right to do it justice. I will return again and again until I get it just right! Thanks to Nick, Karla and Riley for joining us here ~ it was a blast!!!

After a very grey and dark day there was finally a clearing where the Aurora could show his best performance.

No narrative required, I think the photo says it all.

Possible On Black

Yesterday I was late, so today I was out there more than half an hour before scheduled sunrise -- and boy! was I glad. The deep reds came and went in minutes, and I was back home and posting this before the sun.

It was one of those occasions when I wished I was a photographer, and knew what I was doing. But I'll share this effort with you anyway. it was taken very wide angle and I think you could get a hint of the grandeur if you view at original size. (Please notice the size of the trees on the horizon. And what are those rays in the centre, that look like dark rays? I saw them direct, but didn't think I had caught them.)

A couple of old weathered Grain Bins that have seen better days.

This photo was taken in 2007. I recently drove by where these 2 grain bins are located (January 2010). They have been destroyed and are no longer there.

This old barn next to the I & M canal has seen better days but it's still standing strong. Three exposure HDR processed with Photomatix

Well, I just finished up with my $3 coin op shower inside a laundrimat, so I figured, why not post and hit the road. I spend all Morning at the Heceta Head Lighthouse hoping for more color than I got, but spend the evening (also with no color :O/ ) with my new best friend Thor, and let me tell you, …he’s Well. While this shot has been becoming more and more popular (thanks trailblazers!), and I didn’t get anywhere near the fantastic color as I’ve seen some shots have, I may be one of the deepest views into the hole itself. Using the 16-35 @ 16mm, I was on the closest edge with my camera pretty much pointed almost strait down. Got pretty wet, but I didn’t fall in! I figured, since there was a mother and two small girls up the hill at the blowhole, there was no way they wouldn’t save me…..*cough noise*.

I have shots from Portland to the coast and down. Some pretty good cityscapes, Devil’s Punch Bowl, Boiler Bay and Three Arch Rocks, but this shot told me to upload it this morning, and well, who’s going to argue with Thor? Cheers and happy shooting.

Montezuma Well

Montezuma Well, a unit of Montezuma Castle, is located 11 miles from the park. Formed long ago by the collapse of a limestone cavern, over one million gallons of water a day flows continuously into the Well. This constant supply of warm, fresh water provides an aquatic habitat like no other in the world, and has served as an oasis for wildlife and humans for thousands of years.

The sun was in the perfect position, the water as smooth as could be, so I carefully composed the shot. Two mallards obligingly swam into the scene. Perfect!

Then I heard "Sorry", and the canoeist zapped past!

When the water had calmed down, the sun went behind a I had to wait until I composed the shot again (see previous image).

Not sure really what you call this, maybe a well house. I was hoping for some water running so I could take a long exposure but no such luck.
