Like extra virgin olive oil, garlic and lemons .... fresh basil is one of the things I just have to have permanently in my kitchen!
The perfect pairing. In case you wonder about the holes in the bowl it is a pottery colander. For more food and drink images please visit: www.greenshootsphotography.com/#!Home/mainPage

Taking a cue from Giovanna Baldini - bloodybee (she’s basically a genius) and creating my own GMO, a tomato basil plant. Is there a better combination? Playing with the light table again inside because it snowed today, oh spring how you tease us so. TGIF! What would be your favorite combo?
He sits in the window whenever our other cat isn't occupying it. I'm just waiting for the day he figures out he can claw his way out though.

Ocimum tenuiflorum (synonym Ocimum sanctum), commonly known as holy basil, tulasi (sometimes spelled thulasi) or tulsi, is an aromatic perennial plant in the family Lamiaceae. It is native to the Indian subcontinent and widespread as a cultivated plant throughout the Southeast Asian tropics.
The health benefits of holy basil, also known as tulsi, include oral care, relief from respiratory disorders, as well as treatment of fever, asthma, lung disorders, heart diseases, and stress.

They are absolutely best buddies.
Basil (on the left) is a guy. You pronounce his name in the British fasion (BAZ-zill) - he was named after Basil Fawlty, from Fawlty Towers fame, because he has that sense of humour and facial expressions to match. He is very in love with Bean, and always tries to kiss her, play with her, or sidle up next to her on the couch.
Bean is a girl. She was named after Mr. Bean. We picked the name before we new her gender, so we get a lot of cockeyed expressions when we tell someone "Her name is Mr. Bean". The vet even eyed me warily and said "you know this is a girl dog, right?" So now we've just shortened her name to Bean.
We got her first, so when Basil came along she got pretty grumpy. She often shuns him or ignores him, tries to steal his food and attention, but he keeps trying!
They are both 6.5 years old. They are my babies.
I only got round to taking a Macro Monday picture short before the end of daylight. I have no lights for a set up after dark. If I'd had more time I would have retaken this, possibly with another bit of basil. I picked the very tip from the leaves and the 2 depicted leaves are so tiny I couldn't see with the naked eye how damaged they were.
"These purple basil leaves have a beautiful, coppery glow and slightly licorice flavor. Use them in salads or preserved in oils and vinegars. A pot of purple basil provides surprisingly, striking color in the garden."

My father and stepmother's cat. I took this right after we first arrived; good thing, too, because right afterwards Basil met Baxter and let's just say I haven't seen him since.

As fox season approaches I have been wondering whether I will see any youngsters this year. I do know they are still around as I have seen traces, but I am hoping for cubs this year again. It was May that the younsgters first got my distance but usually I start seeing the parental commute with food in early April. These are Basil - one looking sleek and the others 3 weeks earlier and with a fashionable wet look..Lol!! He was getting very big by this time of the year.
