The Asian Otter is the smallest Otter species in the world and is found in mangrove swamps and freshwater wetlands of Bangladesh, Burma, India, southern China, Taiwan, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. They need to eat upto 1/3 of their own body weight each day. In the wild, they only live about 4 years. In captiviity it is not uncommon for them to live up to 18 years.

Asian Lily - (More correctly Oriental Lily, so I'm told!) -This time tomorrow, this magnificent bloom will be, mostly, open!

Difficult to capture the texture but with my trusty Hi-CRI Flashlight I've managed a reasonable image and with very little shift in colour: Lots of trial and error and finished up in manual mode for a 2 sec. exp. and made adjustments with the flashlight; the hard part was not blasting out the fine detail as I did with all flash. Flashlight and Flash...What next?

This particular Asian Pitcher Plant is from the Phillipines and is carnivorous.The botanist described that an insect is attracted to a sticky substance on the rim of the pitcher and lured down the tube. A watery substance is waiting there to kill the insect, then uses the insect's nitrogen from breakdown to support it's own growth! Very cool! This is one of several carnivorous plants featured!

The challenge over at the Origami Forum is ongoing until the end of the month and I'd like to encourage everyone to enter. My second entry this month is an Asian elephant based on a classic (perhaps traditional?) model that ayako kobayashi introduced me to.

My version attempts to update the model with more anatomically accurate features while not resorting to any fancy techniques that weren't available to folders of the period the model was initially created in. The most complicated maneuver in the whole thing is an outside-reverse fold.
