Een waterval uit een wand. Dus eigenlijk meer een Watermuur. Dit kunstwerk is sinds vandaag -21 mei 2008- weer in werking gesteld na een aantal jaren erg stil te zijn geweest. Het is een feest voor het oog van de camera. Vooral bij zonlicht, dan vormen de kleine druppeltjes regenbogen in de bijbehorende kleuren. Gaat dat zien.
's Avonds is een gedeelte verlicht in verschillende kleuren.
Burggarten scenario in Vienna. I loved how all that elaborate architecture shows in the upper half and divided by that white wall come the abstract urban scenario with a modern piece of art and the photographer on a string ;)
The Blashfield Fountain. Originally used by merchants who set up shop under the 59th St. Bridge. Currently used by thirsty dogs, cats, rodents, etc.

Olafur Eliasson's art installation "yellow fog".
Am Hof, Vienna.
"Yellow fog" is an intervention by Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. It is his first work in public space in Vienna. Every day at dusk, the façade of the VERBUND headquarters is shrouded in yellow fog, thus changing the perception of the entire plaza ensemble.
An amusing and very exciting sculptural group in the centre of Malmo, Sweden. Really made me chuckle and I loved the minimalistic yet very expressive design of the musicians. The sculpture is called "Optimistorkestern" and was created by Yngve Lundell.

A detail from a work by Gerome Kamrowski. Using Venetian glass mosaic, Kamrowski's work is firmly based in the Surrealist school.
This is a detail from the Millard Sheets mosaic mural at the Cass Avenue entrance of the Main Library in the city's University Cultural Center. It depicts a series of figures who partake of the "river of knowledge" that flows through time.
this is an unaltered photograph of a spot at Vienna's Hofgarten (Court Gardens) with a white wall slicing the view onto those magnificent buildings in the background to stage a fabulous kinetic sculpture in front. The sculpture is titled "Oblique Column or Twelve Open Squared" and was created by artist George Rickey.

Space Duck Racer, gemaakt voor Hans van Bentem, staat momenteel tegenover de ingang van C&A op de Grote Marktstraat, niet ver van de kruising met het Spui.
Een van de beelden die als een lint door de Haagse Binnenstad lopen, vroeger bekend onder de verzamelnaam het Sokkelplan (omdat ze allemaal op sokkels staan).
Maar na 20 jaar vond men de naam Sokkelplan niet meer goed en werd het "Beeldengalerij van P. Struycken".
In totaal staan er 40 sokkels in de stad waarop beelden, die overigens regelmatig van plaats veranderen. Af en toe is het zoeken of leidt dat tot verwarring onder vergeetachtigen.
In dit overzicht staan ze allemaal afgebeeld. Tevens met vermelding van de naam van het beeld, de kunstenaar en de actuele plaats waar het te vinden is. Misschien moet er een app van komen.
Ik vind dit wel een van de leukste. De Observer vind ik overigens ook schitterend.

Zo ziet een brede straal vallend water er uit op 1/5000 seconden. Het wordt een speelbal van de wind.
Nauwelijks iets aan bewerkt. beetje verscherpt en de Dfine filter eroverheen laten gaan.

Deze zomer is in Den Haag de tentoonstelling The Rainbow Nation - hedendaagse beeldhouwkunst uit Zuid-Afrika. Met ruim vijftig sculpturen van de belangrijkste Zuid-Afrikaanse kunstenaars van de afgelopen zestig jaar. Van 29 mei t/m 9 september op het Lange Voorhout en van 8 juni t/m 30 september in Museum Beelden aan Zee.

Den Haag kent een "Sokkelplan" voor kunst in de openbare ruimte. In de binnenstad staan 40 sokkels opgesteld met actuele kunst in opdracht gemaakt. Ik vind dit plan een heel mooi plan en geniet altijd van de bijzondere beelden. Sinds een tijdje waren de 40 sokkels klaar, het plan was voltooid. Toch bleven er af en toe nieuwe beelden komen. Had er nog niet over wakker gelegen of nagedacht... wordt het plan uitgebreid? Zou natuurlijk zomaar kunnen.
Maar vanmiddag op mijn fietstocht langs de rafelranden van de stad, ergens langs de spoorlijn op een terrein waar vroeger autosloperijen gevestigd waren vond ik een zes of zevental (afgedankte?) sokkels.

The Michigan Labor Legacy Landmark
Located within Philip Hart Plaza (downtown Detroit)
near the intersection of Woodward and Jefferson Avenues.
Two steel arcs stretch to 63 feet and large granite boulders with bronze reliefs and plaques.
Combined weight (arcs and granite boulders) is 30 tons.
In 2000, the Michigan Labor History Society established a non-profit endeavor to create a monument that would celebrate the state’s contributions to the labor movement. Funding was obtained from the United Auto Workers, for the Detroit are AFL-CIO and from a variety of other civic and labor organizations.

After long proceedings the municipality gave permission for the construction of a high building.
In honor of this permission let housing association Green City (now Alliance) making this artwork.
Andre Havas made a larger than life man dressed in black trousers and a black vest.
The artwork is made of bronze, and the exposed body parts are gilded with gold leaf.
With one hand the man leaning against a lamppost.
With the other hand above his eyes, he looks at the building he has established.
Na lange procedures gaf de gemeente toestemming voor de bouw van een hoge flat.
Ter ere van de deze toestemming liet woningbouw vereniging Groene Stad ( tegenwoordig Alliantie) dit kunstwerk vervaardigen.
Andre Havas maakte een meer dan levensgrote man gekleed in een zwarte broek en een zwart hemdje.
Het kunstwerk is gemaakt van Brons en de ontblote lichaamsdelen zijn verguld met bladgoud.
Met één hand leunt de man tegen een lantaarnpaal.
Met de andere hand boven zijn ogen kijkt hij naar het gebouw dat hij mede tot stand heeft gebracht.
