Appendicula calcarata Ridl., J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 31: 302 (1896). Photographed at Kipandi Butterfly Park, about 36 km from Kota Kinabalu.

#201006-10 ~View on Black~

this cute little flower measures just 1/10th of an inch across (less than 3mm). the little inflorescences that bear a single flower each appear along the length of the long (up to about 3ft long) stems giving the impression the plant is infected by some kind of thread-like fungus.

photographed this next to a stream in the jungle. it was really quite a challenge to photograph something this small without a tripod while standing on slippery river rocks!
