I improvised a solar filter by using the film of a 3.5" floppy disk. It was a last minute put-together. It definitely had issues, as I had to actually use two pieces of film and do a minuscule tape job with (scotch) tape. Unfortunately, there was an area of filter that had doubled up, however, I was able to either adjust the darker part of the filter or avoid it all together when fully zoomed.

ONLY A FEW MORE DAYS LEFT TO REGISTER!!!

Closing date for registration is 24-Aug!!!

From 23 to 27 Oct 2014, a Solar Eclipse Conference will take place in Cloudcroft, New Mexico (USA). All details are on this web site: www.eclipse-chasers.com/SEC2014.html

I will also be giving a presentation about "Eclipse Landscape Photography" at the Pre-Conference in Sacramento Peak Observatory.

On 23-Oct-2014 there will be a Partial Solar Eclipse visible in almost entire Canada, the USA and Mexico. See: eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEsearch/SEsearchmap.php?Ecl=20141023. At the Pre-Conference we will observe this event from Sacramento Peak Observatory.

This picture was taken on 20-May-2012 in Winslow, Arizona and shows the setting of the partially eclipsed sun. Before this partial phase, an annular eclipse of the sun took place.

I live in southeastern AZ, outside of where the true annulus was supposed to occur, but at the last minute my wife and I decided to head for Albuquerque where my brother lives, just to see how far we could make it before the eclipse. As we passed the Very Large Array I figured we were close enough and had to turn around. How fitting would a shot be if it included one of these babies? I thought the clouds would ruin the shot but they acted as a pretty nice filter. This is an HDR of about 5 images. Wish I had a telephoto lens but hey, by the time the next annular eclipse comes our way I should have enough saved up to buy one.
