Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

While the sun was giving its last light of the day. I think this is one of the most amazing take offs I have ever seen...
The sky put on an amazing show last night and I photographed so many different scenes. These beautiful crepuscular sun rays started it off and had me grabbing my camera. They lasted for much of the night as the clouds came and went. Happy Sunday friends!
Found this one in the X-files. I have a lot of dragonfly photos on Flickr, so spent quite a bit of time making sure that I hadn't shown this image, or one very similar to it, in the past. Haven't.
The wings are amazing. So intricate. I left the file rather large so that they can be appreciated.
remember when everyone was doing these small piece thingys in the 90's, wish i hadn't clipped the Jade outline but what can u do?

I had to look inside this fragile heart of mine,
To find exactly what it was you saw,
I had to put myself back in the firing line,
To take the shot that knocked me to the floor.
I was down, losing faith,
Oh I was lost in the crowd,
You brought me 'round.
How did you find me?
You came out of nowhere like lightening,
It's kind of amazing how you found me,
Through all the noise somehow.
I was pulling empty pales out of the wishing well,
Only holy water breaks the spell,
I had to pinch myself, 'cause I knew all too well,
The stairway to heaven always starts in hell.
I was down,
But somehow an angel heard my sound,
And brought me 'round.
How did you find me?
You came out of nowhere like lightening,
It's kind of amazing how you found me,
Through all the noise somehow.
Oh, and how did you see me?
Broke through the darkness,
And you reached me,
It's kind of amazing how you found me,
Through all the strangers somehow.
Faith and little patience for this heart of mine,
Though I would stay here waiting 'til the end of time.
How did you find me?
You came out of nowhere like lightening,
It's kind of amazing how you found me,
Through all the noise somehow.
Oh, how did you see me?
Broke through the darkness,
And you reached me,
It's kind of amazing how you found me,
Through all the strangers somehow,
Through all the strangers somehow, oh, somehow.
This is the King of Wings. It is an amazing rock formation in the Bisti Badlands. When I saw this on Flickr I had to go
see it before it fell down. So I talked to my off-roading friend of 20+ years, Don Birdwell, about going and he was ready. So we made a fast 3 1/2 day trip Bisti.
We stayed all night in Albuquerque, NM and drove to Bisti area about 1:30 PM. I thought I knew the way, but we got lost and it took about 1 1/2 hours to get back on track. We than get to the cattle guard that we are to drive down and make the turn. It had been raining a lot the previous week and down this trail was big mudhole that almost got stuck in. So I get out of that, turn around and decide to start walking from here, which would have been a 3.1 mile hike to KOW. So we start walking and discover we could go around the mudhole, so I return to get the 4runner and drive down to corral and fence. Don wanted to go on east on this road, but the instructions I had said I should stop at this point. I should have listened to Don. The gps shows we are 2.1 miles from the KOW as the crow flies.
We first have to cross a very well built barb wire fence. Than we start heading towards KOW through very uneven and difficult terrain, or so I thought at the time. KOW is very desolate. The only thing we have seen was some cattle on the other side of the fence and some red ant hills. It is clouding up to the NW, so we are trying to hurry, because if it rains very hard the trail we came in on, we could be stuck here.I had been doing a lot of walking and jogging prior to go on this trip, but I had a back injury that slowed me down. So we get to the first wash area, or that's what I call it. The first one isn't very deep, but they get deeper. So as you go down the side of it on very soft dirt on top that can cause you slide and loose your balance. At this point I am going up and down several of these and I'm getting very tired. Still following the gps as the crow flies direction, but I'm no crow, just old guy.Don is staying to the edge of the wash which cuts down the distance over them. Once again he is right. Now I start to see all kinds of small hoodoos and other rock features. Don has found a log of a petrified tree with the rest of it in pieces. All of sudden Don yells at me that he can see the KOW. I'm still going up and down waterflows on loose dirt trying to keep from breaking a leg or twist an ankle. Finally I can see it, but I'm wore out. I finally take some pictures from down below it, but was trying to get some energy to climb up to it. So I get up on top close to it. I'm so punch drunk tired and can't think and can barely talk. I try to do the quick connect of my camrea to the tripod, but I have no cordination and can't concetrate to do it. So Don does it for me.
So I get enough energy and start taking pictures from every side of it. There are other incredible rock formations on the back side of it that will be posting pictures of in the future. So Don and I take turns taking pictures with it. I went all this way, and I never touched it. If I touched it, even lightly, and it fell, it would have ruined the whole experience for me. I just did not want that to happen.
So we can see lightening and rain streaks to the NW, and we're worried about getting the 4runner stuck. So we started back circling in the main area bypassing going up and down the ridges that were so tiring and dangerous. The thing is if you get hurt in here, it would probably take a helicopter to get you out, and by the time your friend gets to help would probably take 6 hours, so you probably looking at being here for 12 hours if something goes wrong. You don't hear any sound from anything here, except your hiking friend. No birds, bugs, people, or anything. This is a desolate area. Don said there are no footprints except the ones we had made, and they probably well be there tell they are washed away.
So we climb up and down a couple of washes, and I'm beat. Don is doing great. I had to have rest breaks from time to time and there is that lightning and rain streaks to the west and it is starting to get dark. So we finally get back to the 4runner, drive down the little trail and back to a the gravel road. Few miles down it the rain starts.
I can't tell you what a great experience this was, even with all the pain. We are trying to figure a shorter way of getting there. I really would like to explore the whole area around the King of Wings. It is like another world, or what I would imagine it to be.
Thanks for looking.

With all the reflective surfaces, the lighting was amazing in here. We just could resist some piccys !
The lighting produced by a sunrise can be quite magical.
Sadly.....the most beautiful part of the day occurs before many people wake up !
Have a great Sunday.....
One of my favorite sunset light pictures, it was an amazing evening. I just could not believe what was unfolding in front my eyes, it was like watching a scene come alive from a of a sci-fi movie. I will upload few more shots over the weekend and you will see what I mean. Have a good weekend.
Lofoten Islands, Norway, early one evening the sky came alive! Having never seen Northern Lights before i was completely blown away when this happened, i don't have many pictures from this night but thankfully the ones i have are amazing!! Taken on a photography workshop with Antony Spencer Photography!
On Thanksgiving Day I was driving with my wife from Los Angeles to Page, AZ. We decided to stop right between AZ and UT to see how the sunset would come out. And this is what we got. Something to be really Thankful of...

May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view... May your mountains rise into and above the clouds....

The Lord has promised good to me...
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be...
as long as life endures.
When we've been here ten thousand years...
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise...
then when we've first begun.
The 23rd Psalm:
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name' sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: For thou art with me;
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil; My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
