HOME ALONE - Everyone's away for a few days, time has slowed down considerably, peace, but visitors are welcome – “Hey You”, that’s right, I mean you, the door is open :).

Yes, that's right, where I presently stand
rigid is the mood, sobering my heartland
the eyeopening vista in my head is awake
I knew it would, as inverterately it could,
alone with stillness where I've stood
the place of departure for so much heartache
the skies a place to navigate a memory upon it's way
as may be the case to focus ahead, bid finitely away
at water's edge so much plays in the mind
you know it's true for the déjà vu display in view
it's conscientious style affords an ideal stage for review
a ripple touching the reflection of a thought clearly defined
and how it triggers emotive energies within it's sensuous sphere
only this point in time stands the test to which a heart's tendrils adhere
shadows search the ultra script for which illumination only can write
from the wrongs of darkness, tiptoeing ripples entrance the senses
reflections in flight capture the imagination for the pain it dispenses
oh if only stillness remained long enough for a much deeper insight...

There was a wonderful feature on the Yosemite blog which talks about the concept of going way too fast through National Parks (and life in general), and I thought of my experience while taking this photo. If you have a few minutes, check it out. It's a good reminder to slow down.

There's a reason Lake Louise and Lake Moraine are two of the most visited spots in Banff--they're otherworldly. And despite millions of people photographing them, there's always a new mood to catch, a different set of clouds, a new patch of mist... some new way to appreciate the deep unrelenting beauty of these places.
I learn a lot about people while sitting for long periods of time and taking pictures. There were over 100 people standing on the deck on top of the rocks here in the foreground, all taking pictures of each other in front of the lake. A few minutes later as the temperature dropped a few degrees and the clouds rolled in, I was alone. For a long time. Everyone missed the deep silvery gray of the clouds blowing over the glacier, the lake turning a deep turquoise as the light shifted, the intense quiet and faint sound of distant avalanches.
The average tourist must have spent a grand total of five minutes or less in front of the lake. Five minutes or less. Long enough to take a look, comment on how strange the water color is, maybe say something about it being pretty, take a few snapshots, and turn away to head back to the parking lot. On to the next pretty thing. It's Edward Abbey's "Industrial Tourism" concept at its best. It made my heart hurt. I spent most of the last year craving these lakes, aching to be able to spend long minutes at their shores. If I could bottle the joy I feel in those moments, I could never feel unhappy again.
So I'm proud to be a member of a minority of travelers who do their best to absorb a place, for better or for worse. It can involve a lot of mud and wet clothing, a lot of shivering and sweating, but I can't think of a better way to live.

A stitch of two images taken from the top of Stanage Edge. I was trying to give a sense of the scale of the landscape this lucky paraglider had to himself. I was also intrigued by the wisp of mist rising up from one point along the edge.
Alone Again, Naturally
Gilbert O Sullivan
To think that only yesterday
I was cheerful, bright and gay
Looking forward to, but who wouldn't do
The role I was about to play
But as if to knock me down
Reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch
Cut me into little pieces
Leaving me to doubt
All about God and His mercy
For if He really does exist
Why did He desert me
In my hour of need?
I truly am indeed
Alone again, naturally

Yorkshire Dales National Park is riddled with such structures that usually intersperse with vast grasslands and hillocks...something that I find intriguing and interesting to photograph as they are mostly like people sans any movements..I have never excelled in photographing people as I find it exceptionally difficult to capture the essence of human emotions in a very short span of time..
That is one of the biggest reasons why I love photographing landscapes as they probably will stand a lot longer than your time..Having said that, I have not gone out on any trips for the past 2 years and I have mostly been out of the circuit so to speak..but I still try and create a bleep in the radar every once in a while..I anyway have not uploaded tons of photograhs so I am sure I can keep em trickling...
I hope this new year brings a lot of happiness to all of you and hopefully I will go some place nice to be among nature soon..This beautiful location is near the Ribblehead Viaduct. One of the most beautiful evenings I had spent and is still quite vivid in my mind.
Thanks for viewing!

Celine Dion - Alone
I hear the ticking of the clock
I'm lying here the room's pitch dark
I wonder where you are tonight
No answer on the telephone
And the night goes by so very slow
Oh I hope that it won't end though
Alone
Till now I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone
You don't know how long I have wanted
to touch your lips and hold you tight,oh
You don't know how long I have waited
and I was going to tell you tonight
But the secret is still my own
and my love for you is still unknown

"You are only alone in your aloneness. You are only surrounded in your surroundness. You are blended when one becomes another and back to the other...you are a flowing stream. Within your flow you bring along others and you leave also parts. The ocean becomes because of you."

A few friends have been posting shots of Cathedral rocks in the past few days, and it inspired me to have a look back through my files. This one is a 5 min exposure, and was taken on 17.11. 2012. Processed a little differently for a bit of fun. Hope you like "Alone". Cheers, Mike

Sometimes you just have to lay back, look up at the sky, feel the zephyr, and enjoy your independence.
