CLOSE THE CAMPS - Day 29 of a month of actions outside ICE San Francisco

August 29 - Day 29 - Close the Camps - Free Our Children

Hosted by A Day Without Immigrants SF, Day 29 brought together another lunchtime crowd to the street in front of ICE San Francisco "to protest the inhumane treatment of our people, our children in particular [...] at the border and in the U.S. concentration camps."

The rallies continue to get tremendous support from passing cars, trucks and buses and the giant street mural, "Familias Unidas - Families Belong Together", painted on Saturday and highly visible to all who pass and all who look down from inside the ICE building... IS STILL THERE!

This rally was part of the Month of Momentum: 30 Days of Action to Close the Camps (ICE SF)

I took this photo in 2006, during the A Day Without Immigrants strike. At the time, I had no idea that two years later I would become an immigrant.

US citizens who don't respect the struggles and contributions of immigrants live in the wrong country. I hope today's Day Without Immigrants strike will open some eyes, soften some hearts, and change some policies, because the future of the United States will always depend on immigrants.

I AM AN IMMIGRANT!

Today, across the US, thousands of protesters opposed to a crackdown on illegal immigration are taking part in "A Day Without Immigrants." (I took this set of photos a couple of days ago).    BEST VIEWED LARGE

This guy, Mr. E Garcia, was a real dick. Of all the cops I encountered he was the only one that acted out of line in any way. He just started pushing people around with his stick for no real reason.
