This was by far the most cooperative Black-crowned Night Heron I've ever encountered. I had been working with some Clapper Rails when this bird flew right in and began to fish. The tide had just started really coming in and seemed to bring a lot of fish with it. This heron set up on a tiny creek offshot from the main water and began stalking. As soon as I saw it stalking fish I started to move in on it. The fishing kepts its attention distracted and I was able to quickly close the gap and take some nice portraits while it was standing there. I really wanted some fishing action and was thankful when I caught this during a strike. I like how I managed to get pretty much only the eye sharp but the beak still blurred. I also really love the swinging head plumes and outstretched leg which really show the action. I've got a ton more from this bird but wanted to start with this fun action shot. Taken along the Delaware Bayshore in southern New Jersey. ~ 7/24/17 - ¹⁄₁₀₀₀ sec at f/4.0 - ISO640 ~ 500 mm ~ 500 mm f/4
