for an abandoned house, at least one

(Personal favorite)

She dreams of another world.

This is a deserted house that my sister found, its just sitting in the middle of the woods near Farnham and is a pretty strange place with a few relics of who was but apparently given up restoring it.

Perhaps he liked to paint watercolours too ?

Portrait I took in an abandonded building of Rhiannon from London MGT group. Would love the hear your thoughts in the comments below! Comment below and I will check out your Flickr feed, looking for some new talent to follow.

she lures you in with her beauty, then drags you into her castle walls. All that remains, your name etched in stone ;)

The other day I read a series of interesting blog posts from David Kohrman. In the discussions, Kohrman takes on the idea of ruins and the very nature of this mini- industry of photographing the ruins and abandonment in post- industrial cities, in particular Detroit. According to Kohrman the main motivation of artists in capturing the ruins of the city is nostalgia; many artists are attempting to capture or preserve a memory of what these fading buildings represent. I suppose that applies to me in many ways, though I think it offers only a partial picture of my motivation.

For me, this abandonment represents something bigger than a simple idyllic memory from my youth. I think these relics represent, on one level, abandonment by institutions and so called leadership. On another level, they indicate abandonment of spirit and community by society and individuals. These images prompt me to think deeper about the issues confronting the city and how this condition has created a monster that feeds on itself. It forces me to think about the young folks who walk past this mess as part of their daily routine and makes me wonder how it affects their standards, their goals and their dreams?

As you travel along the neighborhood streets you encounter enough bright spots to reassure you all is not lost. Once you realize these are all man- made problems you realize they are fixable. It is interesting to speculate on how the rebirth of the city will take place and when it will happen. It is even more interesting to discuss how the city will look in 25 or 50 years. My guess is no better than anyone else’s; I think the only correct guess is the city will never return to what it once was. We are given the opportunity to create something new, that is a good thing.

The story behind this one goes back at least 10 years. Certainly since I moved to west Dublin in the late 90's. This imposing house was still occupied back then but was run down and very rough at the edges. I'd see it as I took a short cut between the Straberry Beds on the Liffey and Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, but I never had my camera with me!

A few years later a camper van (an RV for all you yanks) and an old VW Bus were permanently parked outside. But I never had my camera with me!

About 2 or 3 years ago this metal fence turned up around the house and In knew then that I'd never get the shot I wanted, even if I had my camera with me!

Finally, with the lousy weather we've been having this summer, and with my new found skills in HDR from my Kansas project in mind, I set out to take the shot. This time I had my camera with me!

FROM THE IRISH INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPER 20 OCTOBER 2004

DTZ SHERRY FitzGerald is selling a seven-acre land parcel called the Old Schoolhouse Site, Porterstown Road, Blanchardstown, Dublin by public tender on November 18.

The property occupies a long, narrow site overlooking the Royal Canal and fronting onto the Porterstown Road. The nearby Blanchardstown Town Centre is less than 2km away.

The land is zoned residential and high amenity. It would ideally suit a mixed residential or commercial scheme. The landmark building on the front portion of the site, formerly Clonsilla School, could accommodate a restaurant, pub or residential element subject to planning permission.

At present two-bedroom townhouses in the area are achieving around €270,000 and three-bedroom townhouses €295,000.

It is anticipated that the property will achieve in excess of €1m when it is offered for sale next month.

It didn't!

It’s really great how they let you wander around on your own entering buildings and old homes. The floorboards were a little creaky in some of the buildings but there were some great things to photograph.
