There’s a lot of love on the grid at the moment as our virtual, and real worlds, gear up for the ultimate day of love…Valentine’s Day.
However, there is something else happening on Valentine’s Day, also in both worlds….One Billion Rising.
What is One Billion Rising. The website for the event in the real world says:
“One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women in human history. The campaign, launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.”
In Second Life we mark the day with 24 hours of art, poetry, writings, music and dance, across four sims, as we rise against the injustices of women across the globe. This year’s theme, as last year’s, is Solidarity.

My goodness, a big thank you all for the wonderfulness of this comment-fest ... ♡
For those who were wondering how this was done ... one red cardboard cut out heart, my sweet boy always willing to ham it up in front of the camera for the pose, then about 20 photos of the scene as he threw the heart around like a paper plane, all the while with the camera in the same position and on the same manual focus as the original posed image. Some time and many layers in photoshop later ...
Right on the target
But wide of the mark
What I thought was fire
Was only the spark
The sweetest melody
Is an unheard refrain
So lower your sights,
But raise your aim
Who broke my heart?
You did.. you did
Bow to the target
Blame Cupid, Cupid
Just shoot that poison arrow through my heart.

♫ Rumi - Love ♫
Love came, and became like blood in my body.
It rushed through my veins and
encircled my heart.
Everywhere I looked,
I saw one thing.
Love's name written
on my limbs,
on my left palm,
on my forehead,
on the back of my neck,
on my right big toe...
Oh, my friend,
all that you see of me
is just a shell,
and the rest belongs to love.

2/9/2012, I decided to do my first winter photoshoot with a beautiful brunette model we will call "Lisa" to protect her identity and privacy. She wears stylish high heels and walking through the cold ice and snow in open toed shoes would have to be the sign of a genuine model.
"Lisa" has many fantastic poses which I liked. We took some shots around a river and also a frozen pond. I particularly like some of the shots on and around a really old bridge. She is very cold during this photoshoot, but she hides it very well.
If you like this shot, you may also like this photo: www.flickr.com/photos/27127986@N03/4743251122/ During Summer, 2009, I did a great photoshoot with a brunette model named Amy who is very attractive.
Also, there is a really good, growing Flickr group named Women beauties, that I administer. If you want to join, you're more than invited to become a part of my group: www.flickr.com/groups/921586@N25/

It was Valentine's Day 2012 when we brought Guinevere home to meet Shogi.
She was 3 months old at the time.
This is what she looks like today just a year on.
Below is my little tribute to Guinevere to celebrate of her arrival.
Happy Valentine's everyone and thank you for stopping by.
Here is a link to a short video (just 1 and 1/2 mins) on the day we brought Guinevere home
Valentine's Day 2012. My wife and I went out to Barrier Lake in Kananaskis Country to sit in our sleeping bags and stargaze. As luck would have it the Aurora were out late too and they got stronger as the night went on. Got this shot on the way back to Calgary, it was about 1AM (on a school night no less).
I noticed the EXIF info got lost in the shuffle:

Last Valentine's Day one...a bit late but it's such a great holiday it should last all week ;-)
I was inspired to cook a better-than-average meal for Valentine's Day, 2012. Haddock fillets were on sale at a local store for $4.99 a pound, so I started there. Having been burned, in the past, by choosing too many time-consuming dishes for the same meal, I planned carefully. The baked haddock would be the star. While it was cooking, I'd steam the asparagus & make the sauce. I had washed cauliflower flowerets & put them in water in the fridge to crisp & had made pickled fresh beets the day before. Neither of those required cooking. Just before I started preparing the haddock, I assembled a simple fruit salad for dessert. I was aiming for a dinner that would be attractive to the eye, as well as delicious! I chose my serving pieces ahead of time, too--delicate Asian celadon (fish design!) & Japanese patterned china. Our wine came from a fun tasting trip we took, here in New York, to the Tousey Winery in Germantown--The Queen of Clermont--a well-balanced dry white wine with a touch of sweetness:
So, here was my menu--Baked Haddock with Ritz Cracker Crumbs & Shrimp Cheddar Cream Sauce, Raw Cauliflower with Bleu Cheese Dip, Pickled Beets, Steamed Asparagus Cuts, & Fresh Fruit Salad. Everything turned out tasty & was ready at, approximately, the same time. I guess I haven't forgotten how to cook! Recipes to follow:
Baked Haddock with Ritz Cracker Crumbs
1 lb. haddock (or other white fish) skinless fillets (2 fillets), rinsed & patted dry
1/4 c. (4T.) butter, melted
3 T. white cooking wine (other dry wine)
1 T. lemon juice
10 Ritz (or other buttery cracker), crackers, crushed in a plastic bag with
1/4 tsp. onion powder, 1/2 tsp. dried dill weed, & 1/2 tsp. dried parsley
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Crush crackers with dry seasonings. Melt butter, wine, & lemon juice in the microwave oven in a flat container large enough to allow dipping the fish fillets. Locate a baking dish large enough to lay the fillets flat, in a single layer, & lightly coat with cooking oil.
Dip rinsed fillets in the butter mixture & place them in a flat layer in the baking dish. Sprinkle crumbs evenly on top of the fillets & drizzle the remaining butter mixture over the top. Bake in the center of the oven for approximately 30 minutes. Fish should flake easily with a fork & should look opaque. Don't overcook! Serves 2-3 & can be topped with Shrimp Cheddar Cream Sauce. During my childhood years, my mom made baked fish with cream sauce. My recipes are variants of hers, as well as an amalgamation of several I found on the Internet, combined with my years of cooking experience. I owe my starting place of a Ritz cracker topping to my sister, who lives in New England & is married to a Mainer. She has more experience cooking haddock than I do!
Shrimp Cheddar Cream Sauce
2 T. butter
2 T. flour
1 c. milk
1 T. cooking sherry
Dash of paprika
Dash of curry powder
1/2 c. shredded sharp cheddar cheese
4 oz. can small shrimp, drained & rinsed
Melt butter over low heat in a saucepan. Whisk in flour & cook for a couple of minutes, until well-blended. Stir in milk & sherry & bring slowly to a boil, stirring constantly, until thickened. Add cheese & shrimp & stir until warm. Serve with baked seafood.
My cauliflower was served with a commercial bleu cheese dressing.
3-4 medium-sized cooked fresh beets, sliced or 1 can of sliced beets
1 c. cider vinegar (raspberry vinegar is another choice, for added flavor)
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 cinnamon stick
6 whole cloves
1 tsp. whole allspice
Combine all ingredients in a medium-sized sauce pan. Bring to a boil & simmer for 5 minutes. Cool & refrigerate. This is a recipe I remember fondly from childhood. I got it from my mom.
To prepare the asparagus, I simply broke off the tough ends of fresh asparagus spears, washed them, cut them into bite-sized pieces & steamed them until just tender in a small amount of water in a covered sauce pan.
Fresh Fruit Salad
1 ripe banana, chopped into small pieces & coated with 2 T. lime juice
1 medium-sized blood orange, sectioned
1 ripe kiwi fruit, chopped into small pieces
6 ripe strawberries, sliced length-wise (heart-shaped)
4-6 maraschino cherries, quartered
2 T. maraschino cherry juice
Combine all ingredients & chill.
I hope you'll enjoy seeing my meal & may be inclined to try some of the dishes for yourself! Bon appetit!
On this Valentine's Day !!!

This is the shot I taken outside the Hong Kong Harbor View Hotel, TshimShazui, Kowloon before Christmas.
These chocolates are built like a Christmas tree, about 3 storey high. I am using the 100-300mm Len to take this shot.
I decided to use this shot to mark 2012 Valentine's Day!

"Candy corn is the only candy in the history of America that’s never been advertised. And there’s a reason – all the candy corn that was ever made was made in 1911." Lewis Black

"Candy corn was created in the 1880s by George Renninger of the Wunderle Candy Company." Wikipedia
And this dish of candy corn has been sitting out in my living from for about a year, since Valentine's Day 2012. It's old!

I spent a week refining the design to get the color change and proportions correct, this is the Lite version with 6 pieces inside. It's made from a single 12" square of tissue foil.
I had another shoot with this sweet little one this week (2-2-12) to get some Valentine's Day shots for a surprise gift for her daddy :)
Again, I'm posting a bunch of these for her mom to see them all together in a set.

listening to POLIÇA - i see my mother
Poliça (often written as Polica) is a Minneapolis indie rock band with an electronic and R&B sound. The band was founded in 2011 by Ryan Olson and Channy Leaneagh who had previously collaborated in the soft rock band Gayngs.
The band said that "Poliça" means "urgent action" in Polish. According to Channy Leaneagh, it's Polish for "policy", and she sees it as a reference to an unwritten code that guides the members when they play together, as well as its work ethic.
Their first album, Give You the Ghost, was released on Valentine's Day, 2012 and received praise from critics, including Grammy winner and Bon Iver founder Justin Vernon who told Rolling Stone, "They're the best band I've ever heard." Two tracks on the album feature vocals by Bon Iver's Mike Noyce.
Rolling Stone's review of the album said that Leaneagh's "focused, tender voice cascades over dense fields of minor key electronics, backed by funked-up bass and a swarm of percussion. It's the sound of heartbreak and celebration happening simultaneously." Consequence of Sound's review said that "the post-prog-rock percussion and mellifluous bass, along with Channy Leanagh's Auto-Tuned swan songs, re-shape the intersection of rhythm and blues."
In March 2012, the band played at SXSW in Austin, Texas, where NPR wrote that "Polica appears on the brink of something more worldwide, thanks in part to polished and propulsive, word-of-mouth-inducing live shows like this one. Where Give You the Ghost gives the suggestion of a subdued live presence, Polica's stage show heads to somewhere approaching the opposite extreme — a welcome jolt of beauty and power." The Huffington Post review of Poliça's SXSW performance said that "Poliça makes moody music that will stick to your bones. This band is going to be huge."
It was my first Valentine's day with my girl friend, actually, I liked her but I didn't think I made myself clear enough beforehand, might be my inexperience's fault. Anyway, we were just hanging out not for a long time and the Valentine's day was a great opportunity to show my love.
It was a working day and for God's sake it rained heavily by dinner time! We met at the door of the Shangri-la Hotel and I could tell, as long as I am so stupid, that she was not happy at all! Not because of the rain and the long way she come from her office place, but I didn't bring the roses to her! I was empty handed...
I could imagine how bad I was being a boyfriend, I mean, even Grandet will buy a rose, O.K. maybe half? So....she didn't take my hands when we step into that hotel.
Of course I did look at the weather report, tough I am not Sherlock Holmes. I knew there would be heavy rain, I knew she would come in a rush, I knew the dinner in Shangri-la would be double price higher than the ordinary days, I knew if I ordered roses and chocolates and champagne, this particular five-star hotel would just serve perfectly. Above all, I knew she would be happy eventually.
So, we sat, the waiter presented me roses which I ordered before-hand, I gave her the roses, we opened the champagne, cheers! No rain, no rush, little surprise~ I suppose. And then we had a lavish dinner! I took this picture when she went for more dishes.
She was so happy in the end! And so was I. cos she kissed me in the bus,in the rain on her way home.
A picture with a story just makes life more meaningful.
