Torquay - England.
It lies 26 kilometres (16 miles) south of Exeter on the north of Torbay, and adjoins the neighbouring town of Paignton on the west of the bay.In the 19th century, it became a fashionable seaside resort. Renowned for its healthful climate, it earned the nickname of the English Riviera.
The area comprising modern Torquay has been inhabited since paleolithic times. Numerous tourist attractions vie for a share of the resort's visitors including Britain's most important Stone Age site, Kents Cavern which was home to early man for some 700,000 years and where tourists can visit this subterranean wonderland.
Torquay is also set along a coastline renowned for its beaches, having no fewer than nine popular beaches. The high standards of water quality and beach facilities mean that many carry coveted awards, including no fewer than three European Blue Flags - more than any other resort in the UK.
I think this tower on the Albert Docks waterfront is part of the Broadway Malyan designed Mann Island Complex but it's form seems at odds with the 'black iceberg' form of the main building.
The brightness / contrast / colours have been adjusted on my laptop; they may look different on other monitors.

Another early evening shot from last weekend shooting Oxford. As Holywell Street runs roughly East-West you can always be guaranteed great light early evening this time of year (obviously assuming the sun's out.....).
I think both of these Liverpool buildings are part of the Broadway Malyan designed Mann Island complex, obviously if you know different I'll be happy to acknowledge it.
It's shots like this one of the Future Systems designed Birmingham Selfridges which make me glad I don't mind getting up early in the morning once in a while.

Glencoe area, August 2009
I used: soft gradient filter ND 0.9 + 0.6, circular polarizing filter, UV filter
A touch of Topaz (with a spot of added diffusion) has given this shot of Docklands skyscrapers a slightly sci-fi feel. The colours in the glass have been enhanced but they were there, seemingly a result of cross polarisation (formed by polarising the glass which presumably has some kind of polarising coating itself).

A slightly unusual view of Avebury, Wiltshire, UK in that there's no megalithic stones. But with clouds like these, who needs them?
