Taken during a visit to Batsford Arboretum. April 24th 2010.
Magnolia kobus, known as the Kobushi Magnolia, is a species of Magnolia native to Japan. It is a deciduous, small tree which has a slow rate of growth but can reach twenty-five feet in height and thirty-five feet in width.
It blooms in the early spring, showing white flowers with hints of pale pink which are approximately four inches in diameter and have a pleasant fragrance.
I want to thank everyone who has commented on this photo. These tulips are in a small round container sitting in front of the Hotel InterContinental on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. If you have never visited Chicago in the spring, I highly recommend doing so. Michigan Avenue, where my office building is located, is absolutely beautiful this week. The tulips in the center of the avenue along with all of the other masses of tulips planted in front of the office buildings and stores are just breathtaking. To see some of what I am talking about, you can check out my other photos in my "My Flower Pictures" set. Again thank you for all the compliments--it really is just another "lucky" photo.
