...Revisiting The Brave New World...
The Thistle is the floral emblem of Scotland.
According to legend, in the 13th Century, an invading Norse army was attempting to sneak up at night upon a Scottish army's encampment. One barefoot Norseman had the misfortune to step on a thistle which, as you know, are very prickly! He cried out in pain, alerting the Scots to the presence of the invaders. It's thought that the specific occasion was the Battle of Largs (1263), which marked the beginning of the departure of King Haakon IV (Haakon the Elder) of Norway who, having control of the Northern Isles and Hebrides, had harried the coast of the Kingdom of Scotland for some years.
The thistle (like the burr) is an ancient Celtic symbol of nobility of character as well as of birth - so any of us with Celtic blood can feel an affinity to this flower too !
Thistle flowers are favourite nectar sources of many butterflies. The seeds are favourites with goldfinches (seeds are called niger seed).

And thank you, as always, for looking and for your support ! Have a wonderful weekend everyone !
Not many know that while I was in the employ of the good King Raub of Eternity I was trained in three very unpirate like skills… to ride a horse, joust like a knight, and hunt with a bow. I actually became quite proficient in all three.
But I soon learned that I was not meant to knock people of horses with long pointy sticks… and no offense to the mighty horse Goliath… I am much happier on the deck of a ship then in the saddle of a horse. However it turned out that using a bow became quite useful…. even for a pirate… Firstly it’s difficult to hunt game with a cutlass and well a musket just isn’t very accurate at long distances.
Now one morning… just as the sun was comin’ up over the horizon… I was out traipsin’ thru Hangout searchin’ of some food to give to Lulu… she’s ain’t too useful to have around but when you can get her too cook up some vittles she ain’t half bad…. The trick is findin’ the wench when she’s needed… ok ok back to the story…
Just as I was nearin’ the top of a hill I spotted him. A beautiful hart just standin’ there as if waitin’ for me to see him… I raised the bow and shifted my wait and just then a twig beneath my boot snapped and made an almost thunderous sound in the silence… The hart looked straight at me and gave a little grunt… I expected him to flip his tail up and dart into the woods but instead he lowered his head and started walkin’ towards me… Needless to say I didn’t take the shot and he came close enough that he tapped the bow with one of his antlers… I reached out towards him and he quickly backed up, turned tail, and ran…
It was a strange encounter indeed…. But this is a strange land where odd things sometimes happen.
The new year has started with the fireworks from a weather point of view. A great clearing storm caused by a cold front has create the scene above on the Garda lake, Italy. A brave swan, with other birds, seemed not scared at all by the dark menace approaching from the horizon.
No PP, just used picture style embedded.
No PP, elaborato in macchina con PictureStyle e basta.
Another visit to the Besseggen trail, stunning views stand in line towards the green waters of Gjende below.
Taken at Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii last August. When I saw this landscape, I instantly thought of Mordor from Lord of the Rings and was inspired to take this photo. I also discovered lava rocks are razor sharp when walking across them barefooted.

The Monumento a los Bomberos (Firemen’s Monument) was built by Spanish sculptor Agustín Querol and architect Julio M Zapata to commemorate the 28 firemen who died when a hardware shop in La Habana Vieja caught fire in 1890.
The Brave Tin Soldier.
2 characters from the fairytale by H.C. Anderson was carved out of wood on my way to an easter party today :-)
The story about a tin toy soldier that was missing a leg and in love with the ballerina is a classic.

We might still be..
You would’ve been..
If you were..

I wish it wasn’t four am..
Saying to myself, you know you had to do it I know
The bravest thing I ever did was run.."

Respira, respira l’ossigeno in vena
E tutto ritorna nel solito posto
