A pro surfer practising
for more impact ...zoom in! :)
Peter had to visit a friend on the Northern Beaches today, so we called in at Dee Why to see whether any surfers were about. The surf was very rough today and some of the waves were big, so a lot of action about.
I took the Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM Lens out for a practice. It is a very heavy lens to carry around, so I am not sure whether I will be able to handle it on a long term. I would love to try it birding though.
Couldn't drag myself away from the beach, but decided to take off my wide angle lens and try my hand at some surfing action instead.
I was hoping to capture the action of some of the up and coming young pro surfers contesting the Mattara Surfest competition - however small swell and high tide delayed the heats today and the big guns weren't coming out for a few more hours!
Hope you like this capture anyway!!

On Saturday I had a day in Cornwall with a few photographer buddies. Our first stop was Porthcurno which is a National Trust beach. Unfortunately the sun was beating down on the beach and was playing havoc with any traditional landscape shots so I turned my camera to the amazing waves that were crashing on the rocks. If I could surf, this would be a dream day out!
