This is my pirate Stikfas who is in need of a name.

As this year draws to an end and so does this photo a day journey I wanted to get some of the stuff together that has helped me out thorough this year. Can you remember the photos they starred in this year and which your favourite was?

There are some notable toy line anniversaries in 2014. It's Microman's 40th, Transformers' 30th and it's been 10 years since Xevoz was first released.

Xevoz was a wildly creative line that could have been a major hit for Hasbro but the toy company quickly abandoned it after a year. One can only speculate why. Was the cost of licensing and manufacturing the line too high to continue fostering it as it slowly built its audience? Did major retailers have trouble seeing the appeal of this eccentric line?

If the reasons for the line's demise are unclear, its beginnings are better documented. Xevoz had its origins in Stikfas, a toy line created by Ban Yinh Jheow, a Singaporean toy fan with a chequered history.

(Ban YJ upon winning the Designer of the Year award for Stikfas in 2007: "Break the rules and take risk." Ban YJ in 2012: jailed for having sex with an underage prostitute.)

Ban YJ's tiny company couldn't cope with the cost of tooling and manufacturing Stikfas so it took out an ad designed to pique the interest of Hasbro. The world's second-biggest toy company would not only agree to manufacture, distribute and market Stikfas in 2002 but it would also go on to design its own Stikfas-licensed toys. The result was one of the most unusual lines to bear the Hasbro logo.

I remember when this is what Saturday nights were all about, sitting down with the family in front of the TV having tea and watching Brucie and the Generation Game!

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height

My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight

For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.

I love thee to the level of everyday's

Most quiet need, by sun and candlelight.

I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;

I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.

I love thee with the passion put to use

In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.

I love thee with a love I seemed to lose

With my lost saints, I love thee with the breath,

Smiles, tears, of all my life! and, if God choose,

I shall but love thee better after death.

The new Holga for Wage came in today, too bad that it's not 1:6 scale as advertised...

Oh well, I think it will fit Yotsuba nicely once she arrives.

Race's Stikfas skeleton gets its revenge on my Stikfas fairy.

My Stikfas fairy beats down Race's Stikfas pirate.

This idea came from [inFocus]. Hope you can get those prints back soon mate. Strobist:

Stikfas "spare parts guy" practicing his party trick.

the warrior monk is letting me know that it's time for a new 50mm. i knew this one was cracked, but hadn't seen the crack manifest itself yet. other shots taken on the same day with light source bokeh show it much more dramtically.

"Who is that guy? I didn't see him before... What is he doing here?"

Playing around with posing my Stikfas fairy. Don't you love my scrapbook paper backdrop?

the warrior monk had so much fun playing in the street the previous day, he couldn't resist doing it again after seeing a normally busy cesar chavez closed for a triathlon.

So there's the reason I haven't been able to play my guitar....
