#60. Got the blues. Theme for 115 pictures in 2015.
These are Spanish not English Bluebells that grow beneath the oak tree at the bottom of our garden.
A bit of processing in photoshop to achieve this watercolour effect. The light green leaves in the sunlight (front) are the new leaves coming through on the Montbretia Crocosmia (Orange Flame).
This beautiful decoration does no harm to the tree on which it clings as it gets all the water it needs from the air!!
The Spanish moth, Xanthopastis timais (Cramer), is unmistakable for any other moth in Florida. The larvae are likewise very colorful, and have been called convict caterpillars. The larvae are occasional pests of lilies, mainly in Amaryllidaceae.

" Spanish-moss, also called Florida moss, long moss, or graybeard, is not a true moss. It is an epiphytic plant, which grows on another plant, but does not rely on the host plant for nutrients; epiphytes make their own food.
They are sometimes referred to as air plants because most have aerial roots; however, Spanish-moss does not have any roots. It uses its long, thin, scaly stems to wrap around the host tree and hang down from the branches. The leaves are covered with cup-like, permeable scales that 'catch' moisture and nutrients from the air and from pockets on the surface of the host. This water-trapping ability allows Spanish-moss to withstand long dry periods. In extreme dry spells, the plant becomes dormant until moisture returns.
Spanish-moss was harvested for years as a stuffing material in automobile seats, furniture, and mattresses. The moss-stuffed mattresses were said to be cooler and more comfortable due to the natural insulating properties of the plant. This was especially important in pre-air-conditioning days." spanish moss info
I have seen them used on plant but I learned they stuff this in bed mattresses when I visited at Oak Alley Plantation, facinating facts to learn ...

Los Cerrillos, New Mexico started off as a tent city but soon grew into a town of many buildings, homes, a church, a school and stores due to mining boom. By 1900 the mines began to shut down and the town started to dwindle.
Today, it's is a town of less than 250 people but still shows signs of the early Spanish handcrafted architecture. Spanish colors have long had a symbolic meaning, blue is thought to be a color of protection against evil...

The Spanish colonial horse. Originally bred by the Spanish approximately 400 years ago, these horses are now facing extinction. In population, there are approximately one hundred Spanish colonial horses left in the world. Spanish Mustangs are nearly gone too but they are still in the thousands.
They no longer live in Spain, as they were bred by the conquistadors. Later, they became the original horses of the Native Americans. In the 1700's they were the most popular horse on the continent.
The sanctuary hopes to educate visitors about the importance of conserving the homeland of these beautiful horses in present day Oklahoma.
We will do lectures detailing our program and providing additional information and activism inquiries, which can be found through : www.returntofreedom.org

"It is unmistakable for any other moth in Florida. The larvae are likewise very colorful, and have been called convict caterpillars. The larvae are occasional pests of lilies, mainly in Amaryllidaceae. Spotted larval forms of Spanish moth appear similar to lily borer larvae, Brithys crini (Fabricius) (Godfrey 1972) of Europe and the Old World tropics, but only the banded larval form of the Spanish moth occurs in North America."
I was away for a few days to extramadura (a spanish region) where friends of Jenny and I, were getting married. Big traditional wedding with loads and loads of people, guys wearing suits with 40ºC (I was the smart one, also being from Normandy, I did NOT wear one), it was boiling hot. The food was nice and overall we had a great time!!! I really like this photo I took because of the multitude of colors and because the bride and groom are desperatly trying to avoid them (didn't work!)...I'll post some more shots of Paris and France as a whole this week. Hope you like this one - show me the love!!!
