This is one of the buses that takes you from Amman to Petra. An unforgettable event happened that day: I had just crossed to Jordan from Jerusalem and arriving to Amman, looked for a suburban bus to take me to the terminal where I could catch a coach to Petra, 3 hours travel time to the south. When I boarded that bus along with a Japanese backpacker, the conductor told me they did not do change, had to be the exact amount and asked me to go and change the bill into coins at some of the vendors at the terminal. Saw a man inside the bus, with an Arab headgear waving at me, and he passed me two coins, which I worked out were two 50 cents coins for my 1 dinar bill. The conductor still kept gesticulating and talking a mix of English and Arabic, then a lady at the back of the bus held her baby with one arm and opened her purse with the other pulling out a couple of coins and passed to the person in front of her, and that one to the next until it reached me at the bus front door. I understood then it was the 4 cents to make up the 54 cents fare for the two of us! I offered her the other 50 cents for her good will, but she smiled and waved refusing my offer and I never felt so emotional on a lady going through all this to help two total strangers and foreigners. I have a great respect for the Jordanian people who were friendly and helpful all along my seven days in their country.
