Jasminum (/ˈdʒæzmɨnəm/), commonly known as jasmines, is a genus of shrubs and vines in the olive family (Oleaceae). It contains around 200 species native to tropical and warm temperate regions of the Old World. Jasmines are widely cultivated for the characteristic fragrance of their flowers.

Jasmine tea is consumed in China, where it is called jasmine-flower tea (茉莉花茶; pinyin: mò lì huā chá). Jasminum sambac flowers are also used to make jasmine tea, which often has a base of green tea, but sometimes an Oolong base is used. Flowers and tea are "mated" in machines that control temperature and humidity. It takes four hours or so for the tea to absorb the fragrance and flavour of the jasmine blossoms, and for the highest grades, this process may be repeated as many as seven times. Because the tea has absorbed moisture from the flowers, it must be refired to prevent spoilage. The spent flowers may or may not be removed from the final product, as the flowers are completely dry and contain no aroma. Giant fans are used to blow away and remove the petals from the denser tea leaves. If present, they simply add visual appeal and are no indication of the quality of the tea.

In Okinawa, Japan, jasmine tea is known as sanpin cha (Source: Wikipedia)

Taken at Nursery store while shopping for some plants for our garden this year. I bought few plants and just waiting for a good weather to plant them.

Week 119 in Poetography ... a weekly inspiration. This week theme is about "You."

I chose the Jasmine for this theme. Jasmine or Sampaguita as we call it is my favourite flowers growing up and still is for each beauty and lovely scents. It also brings wonderful memories when I was in Grade six. I used to make garlands of these flowers and then bring it to my Aunt who used to own a store in the market,..she then sells it for little money. In return and gratitude, she always gave me my favourite Filipino desserts.

***********************************************************************************

Jasminum sambac was adopted by the Philippines as the National flower on 1 February 1934 via Proclamation No. 652 issued by AmericanGovernor-General Frank Murphy. Filipinos string the flowers into leis, corsages, and sometimes crowns. These garlands are available as loose strings of blossoms or as tight clusters of buds, and are commonly sold by poor children outside churches and near intersections.

Sampaguita garlands are usually placed on religious images and photographs of the deceased on altars, and is presented to visitors, dignitaries, and occasionally to graduating students as a form of bestowing honour, veneration and accolade.

Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone! HSS!!

This was cheap and I like the bottle. Not so sure abut the scent, but if you have the patience for sales blurb read this..hilarious!

"Night of Fancy invites all young women and all those who feel as such, to enjoy and investigate their wildest dreams and fantasies. Feel and experience the mysterious adventure of the successor to Flight of Fancy, with new nuances, magical and romantic violet!

The perfume Night of Fancy opens with fruity aromas of blueberry with accords of grapefruit leaves and wild strawberries. The heart hides secrets of Stephanotis - jasmine from Madagascar with Sambac jasmine absolute, while the base notes encompass accords of milkshake, (HUH?) olibanum and Cashmeran molecules.

This gracious and elegant edition struts with a top designed in the form of peacock with carved motifs on its tail, and dark floral applications on the glass body of the bottle. Night of Fancy was launched in 2008."

So there you have it, whatever 'it' is!

It was a treat to see a sampaguita yesterday (here in Kuwait) so i just grab my camera and took one shot. This flower has been integrated with the filipino culture especially for devout catholics. It reminded of my lola who would always buy a garland for our sto.nino.

The garlands may be used to welcome guests, or as an offering or adornment in religious altars. Its oil is believed to be a cure for headache.
