Notes on picture.

Cronulla, derived from an Aboriginal word kurranulla meaning ''place of pink seashells', is located on the Bate Bay coastline in Sydney's south. It is the only Sydney beach that can be reached by train, meaning you can visit without the headache of finding a car park. Cronulla Beach is the only beach patrolled all year round by Sutherland Shire Council's professional lifeguards together with volunteer lifesavers from Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club.

Once again this morning, I was treated to a beautiful sight from my balcony as the 25%-illuminated Moon was adorned by some high clouds, made crimson by the pre-sunrise light refracting around the Earth’s atmosphere. The purity of the white light coming from the moon’s surface always looks enchanting to me and having the colours of the background sky and sunlit clouds added to the joy of it all this morning.

I captured this scene with my Canon EOS 6D Mk II camera, a Sigma 50-500mm f/5.6 lens @ 500mm focal length and set to an aperture of f/8.0, using an exposure time of 1/100th of a second @ ISO 800.

EG Waterhouse National Camellia Gardens

In March 2014 E.G. Waterhouse National Camellia Gardens was named by the International Camellia Society as an International Camellia Garden of Excellence. It is one of only 40 International Camellia Gardens of Excellence in the world and the only such garden in New South Wales.

Located in Caringbah overlooking the Yowie Bay, Camellia Gardens is a favourite with Sutherland Shire residents and visitors alike.

The garden began as a project under the 1970 Captain Cook Bicentenary program, and the first plantings were made in 1969. They are names after the late Professor EG Waterhouse, a leading world authority on camellias, who lived in Sydney.

I tried not to stand in the same footsteps as all those gone before me to take this old ruin. However, having walked around it several times I personally think it a good position which gives you the opportunity to include both Cul Mór (left) and Suilven (right).

The little crofting community of Elphin can be found in south west Sutherland near the border with the neighbouring county of Ross-shire.

For the visitor, one of the main attractions in this area are the mountains. Walkers and climbers are drawn to the dramatic peaks of the likes of Canisp, Suilven, Cul Mór and Ben More Assynt.
