Western Harbour Promenade [edit | edit wiki code ]

Western Harbour Promenade between Limfjordsbroen and railway bridge over the fjord was the first port area which was converted from the port and industrial use to mixed urban uses with commercial and residential .

The aim of the transformation of the area was to create a diverse district with mixed use , with an attractive promenade and urban quality . The goal was to create an intimate and distinctive skyline seen from the water and Nørresundby .

The district contains etagehusbebyggelse of 4-6 floors of mixed urban uses such as housing, education and eco-friendly business . The area is also zoned for smaller shops and cafes. To add water and thus urban qualities into the area , brought a 14 m wide channel dug from the fjord to Beach Road - Obel Channel .

Aalborg Central Waterfront [edit | edit wiki code ]

Aalborg Central Waterfront is located in front of the medieval city , where the fjord is narrowest and form a big swing. Aalborg Central Waterfront should be experienced as a whole with the harmony of materials and lighting - lighting which made the Danish Lighting Award in 2011. The landscape is emphasized by a continuous promenade for vulnerable road users. The promenade is made of asphalt, and the establishment sit and stay stairs that go down to the water, and benches and viewing platforms .

Unifying the field , and a prerequisite for good and direct relationship between the dense city center and harbor area , the new roads Beach Road , Castle Square - Nyhavnsgade . The total road course is being used spring of 2010. The road has been converted into a beautiful city street with traffic in two lanes , pedestrian refuges / left-turn lanes , bike paths, sidewalks , landscaping and street lighting .

In the area between Toldbodgade and Castle Square is released large areas for Virgin Ane Park . At the harbor in front of the Virgin Ane park is Havnebadet and restaurant ship Polar Bear . Virgin Ane Park is widely consulted on hot days , as an environment where you can sunbathe , play music or sports , for example . Activity Square. After Virgin Ane park is Honnørkajen and Utzon Center , where the big cruise ships when they are visiting the city, also becomes Honnørkajen used for concerts , as it is a large area.

Between Utzon Center is Utzon Park and Bikubens student residences , designed by Jørn Utzon's son Kim Utzon. Subsequently the First Hotel Aalborg and an office building .

The award-winning pier is on the North Shore. Built in 1878, at 2,295 feet (700 m) the pier is the longest in Wales and is a Grade II listed building.

Looking back towards the town from the end of the pier, on a clear day one can see the mountains of Snowdonia rising over the town. A curious major extension of the pier in 1884 was in a landwards direction along the side of what was the Baths Hotel (now where the Grand Hotel stands) to provide a new entrance with the Llandudno Pier Pavilion Theatre at the North Parade end of the promenade, thus increasing the pier's length to 2,295 feet (700 m). Attractions on the pier include a bar, a cafe, amusement arcades, children's fairground rides and an assortment of shops & kiosks.

In the summer, Professor Codman's Punch and Judy show (established in 1860) can be found on the promenade near the entrance to the pier.

The Grand Hotel is a large hotel in Scarborough, England, overlooking the town's South Bay. It is now a Grade II* listed building that is owned by Britannia Hotels, and has undergone a £7 million refurbishment.

The hotel was designed by the Hull architect Cuthbert Brodrick, and when completed in 1867 was one of the largest hotels in the world, as well as one of the first giant purpose-built hotels in Europe. The hotel's distinctive yellow brickwork was made locally in Hunmanby.

The building is designed around the theme of time: four towers to represent the seasons, 12 floors for the months of the year, 52 chimneys symbolise the weeks, and originally there were 365 bedrooms, one for each day of the year. The hotel itself is in the shape of a 'V' in honour of Queen Victoria.

The hotel's heyday was arguably during Victorian times, when wealthy holidaymakers made up the establishment's clientele. As Scarborough was a famous spa town, the building's baths originally included an extra pair of taps, so guests could wash in seawater as well as fresh.

The hotel was badly damaged when the German Navy bombarded the town in 1914.

Nowadays, the hotel caters towards the budget end of the spectrum. The hotel was bought by Butlins, the company better-known for its holiday camps, in 1978, and run as an inexpensive choice of accommodation until it was sold to Britannia in 1998.

Three blue plaques outside mark where the novelist Anne Brontë died in 1849, the contribution of the RAF trainees stationed at the hotel during World War II, and the original opening of the building

An artist impression of my preferred view of Marina Bay at the Waterfront Promenade... Digitally planted Sands hotel closer to the waterfront and changed the Waterfront Promenade with greener pastures. Hope that no one gets offended. Just my thoughts.

The Hotel Negresco on the Promenade des Anglais on the Baie des Anges in Nice, France was named for Henri Negresco (1868-1920) who had the palatial hotel constructed in 1912. In keeping with the conventions of the times, when the Negresco first opened in 1913 its front opened on the side opposite the Mediterranean.

Over the years, the hotel had its ups and downs and in 1957 was sold to the Augier family. Madame Jeanne Augier reinvigorated the hotel with luxurious decorations and furnishings, including an outstanding art collection and rooms with mink bedspreads. Noted for its doormen dressed in the manner of the staff in 18th-century elite bourgeois households, complete with red-plumed postilion hats, the hotel also offers renowned gourmet dining at the Regency-style Le Chantecler under its new chef Bruno Turbot, brought in from Normandy when previous chef Alain Llorca took over the equally fabled Moulin de Mougins.

In 2003 the Hotel Negresco was listed by the government of France as a National Historic Building and is a member of Leading Hotels of the World. The Negresco has a total of 119 guest rooms plus 22 suites.

I never tire of looking at this view across the North Bay Scarborough with the road lined with hotels and the 12th Castle standing proudly on the horizon. Lots of footpaths allow you to stroll gently down onto the promenade and walk into the town a mile or so behind the castle. Be prepared for the walk back up the hill.

Gulls (often informally seagulls) are birds in the family Laridae. They are most closely related to the terns (family Sternidae) and only distantly related to auks, skimmers, and more distantly to the waders. Until recently, most gulls were placed in the genus Larus, but this arrangement is now known to be polyphyletic, leading to the resurrection of several genera.

They are typically medium to large birds, usually grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They typically have harsh wailing or squawking calls. They have stout, longish bills, and webbed feet. Gull species range in size from the Little Gull, at 120 g (4.2 oz) and 29 cm (11.5 inches), to the Great Black-backed Gull, at 1.75 kg (3.8 lbs) and 76 cm (30 inches).

Roller (noun)

1. a person or thing that rolls.

2. a cylinder, wheel, caster, or the like, upon which something is rolled along.

Summer... France...Nice... Hotel Negresco.

Inaugurated in 1913, and listed as a National Historic Monument, this Belle Époque palace is located on the seafront promenade overlooking the Bay of Angels. Hotel furnished throughout with a unique collection of antiques and contemporary works of art.

Among others these sculptures paid my attention. They were standing and moving in a same time, rolling somewhere... The spanish sculptor Franck R. Tassi offers a representation of a mixture of various elements resulting from his concern about the relation of man in front of the universe, the society or technology. His style of expression shows man as creator as well as victim and often prisonner of his technology and even slave of his own inventions... It's from the official description of his sculptures Mechanic Dancer (Cyborg M.M.) and Jeanne De Loulu...

I use here my shots of these sculptures and an interior of Hotel Negresco to define the word "roller" as a symbol of our life. We all run, move, roll somewhere... We don't know where we go... Tomorrow is unpredictable but we're rolling there, we all are the Rollers...

The Kingdom of Belgium is a country in northwest Europe. It is a founding member of the European Union and hosts its headquarters, as well as those of other major international organizations, including NATO. Belgium covers an area of 30,528 square kilometres (11,787 sq mi) and has a population of about 10.7 million.

Straddling the cultural boundary between Germanic and Latin Europe, Belgium is home to two main linguistic groups, the Flemish and the French-speakers, mostly Walloons, plus a small group of German-speakers. Belgium's two largest regions are the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders in the north, with 59% of the population, and the French-speaking southern region of Wallonia, inhabited by 31%. The Brussels-Capital Region, officially bilingual, is a mostly French-speaking enclave within the Flemish Region and has 10% of the population. A small German-speaking Community exists in eastern Wallonia. Belgium's linguistic diversity and related political and cultural conflicts are reflected in the political history and a complex system of government.

There really is no better way to spend time in Cannes than to promenade along La Croisette!

Written in 1943, these words still hold true today - the street has received the classification of “site pittoresque” and presents a true invitation for idleness as you take in the sights.

No visit to Cannes would be complete without a daily promenade along all or part of the the 3km long La Croisette. The wide pedestrian walkway runs between the sandy beach and the busy costal road on which many of the leading hotels and posh boutiques are situated.

Under the shade of the pine and palm trees, this is the most wonderful place to soak up the sun, enjoying the views out of the Baie de Cannes to the Isle Sainte Marguerite and nearby Estérel mountains and of course people watch.

From the comfort of one of the blue painted metal chairs, sit and watch as a steady flow of locals and tourists from around the world take in the sights or wrap up warm on a winters day and watch the magnificent sunsets over the mountains of the Estérel.

I love the early morning on la Croisette - it is quiet and if you take a seat you literally watch Cannes wake up. First it is the older folk who come out to walk their dogs, meet with friends for a daily chat or just sit and read the paper, the occasional runner weaving a path through them.

Later the beautiful people appear before disappearing onto one of the private beaches or beachside restaurants. Families make their way to the small funfair near the Palais de Festival and romantic couples vie for space and they progress along the promenade. At weekends in the winter groups of friends gather on the beaches to watch the sun set.

Window shop along The Boulevard de la Croisette - the preserve of the rich and famous, with its many dazzling art-deco designed, multi-starred luxury hotels and couture shops See just how much you can spend in a single block in your imagination! The sounds of high performance vehicles is a common occurrence, particularly during the high season will bring you back to reality

Legendary addresses include the Hotel Barrière Le Majestic, the Martinez and the InterContinental Carlton Cannes, with its twin cupolas apparently modelled on the breasts of the courtesan La Belle Otéro, infamous for her string of lovers – Tsar Nicholas II and Britain’s King Edward VII among them.
