From December 7th through you can enjoy a grand light festival in downtown Amsterdam. Walk or sail alongside to light sculptures created by leading artists, beautifully illuminated buildings, bridges and boats and surprising light projections on buildings. On the Amstel river in front of the City Hall you can see the artwork 1.26 Amsterdam of Janet Echelman from United States. 1.26 Amsterdam is a referral to the earthquake in Chili of February 2010 that reduced the day by 1.26 microseconds. For Echelman, the opportunity to integrate the reflections of the light in the water in Amsterdam with her work is unique. Janet Echelman reshapes the urban airspace with monumental, fluid and moving sculptures that respond to environmental forces, such as wind, water and sunlight. In India, Echelman created a new form of voluminous sculpture of fishing nets for the first time, without heavy and solid materials. To shape her projects, she works with a team of professionals from, for instance, the aviation industry and architecture.

The Karel Doorman (during the planning stage called the ‘Linea Nova’) is a 16 story residential building. It’s realized on top of a functionalistic Rotterdam ‘wederopbouw’ icon, the Ter Meulen department store (designed in 1948 by Van den Broek & Bakema).

The building has a very light steel and wood structure because it rests on the foundation and the concrete skeleton of the '48 department store. It weighs only a fifth of what a traditional residential building would do. A large amount of pre-fab construction elements were used. Shown here are the roof garden, the right-hand tower of the building and the glass facade.

I'm halfway my project 52 weeks now and the result isn't like what it used to be during my project 365... I feel the same pressure I used to feel every day, but only once a week now. Over the couple of weeks I'm thinking more and more about starting another project 365 days of me somewhere in October or November, simply because you're enthusiastic in the beginning and the winter demotivated me a lot during my previous project 365.

I will set specific targets before I start the new project 365 because I want to do more than "just take some pictures".

Masonic Temple is a term commonly used in Freemasonry with multiple but related meanings. It is used to describe an abstract spiritual goal, the conceptual ritualistic space formed when a Masonic Lodge meets, and the physical rooms and structures in which a Lodge meets. When used to describe a structure the term is interchangeable with the term Masonic Hall.

This building and temple was completely renovated in 2013.

zie: www.schakel-schrale.nl/projecten/vondelstraat-39-41-in-am...

EXPLORE Worthy, Challenge #52 - FAIRTYTALE (Art from 2013)

Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam, Kop van Zuid, Rijnhaven, Floating Expertise and Exhibition Centre, Mist (uncut)

This floating structure really comes into its own in the mist. It's "the recently opened Floating Expertise and Exhibition Centre. It consists of three semi-transparent domes of respectively 18. 5, 20 and 24 meter in diameter. In total, they cover a surface of about 1000 square meters. The building has been built in one of the city harbours of Rotterdam and is now located in the ’Rijnhaven’. The Pavilion is accessible for professionals on request and will be opened on a regular base for Rotterdam citizens as well.

The building has been developed by the architect groups Deltasync and Public Domain Architects.

Why has it been built ?

A large part of the Netherlands is situated below sea level. Over the last 150 years, the Dutch people have conquered the sea to develop new land (‘polders’) and protect them with dikes and extensive water pump systems. Raising sea levels and intensified storms lead to reinforcement of existing water management structures.

Every strip of land ánd every strip of water is precious in a highly dense country like The Netherlands. The Task Force ‘Rotterdam Climate Initiative’ has been established to study building constructions in areas outside the dikes. The floating pavilion is the first result.

Important objectives of the new Pavilion are to showcase ways to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions, in line with the Rotterdam Municipality objectives of 50% CO2 emission reduction by 50% by 2020 "

EINDHOVEN - The GLOW 2018 -

Culture Station connects schools in Eindhoven with local cultural operators and artists to inspire artistic children. To support teachers, they developed a lesson scheme for the design and manufacture of the artwork. There is also a demonstration in which schools lesson ideas, artistic tips, indications about the use of materials and technical possibilities.

In recent years, GLOW for KIDS a success formula proven. The project contributes to the creative development of children, but also offers them a special experience: in the company of parents, teachers or other children in the middle of the GLOW-projects their own work of art.

Project Luminarie De Cagna, Glow Eindhoven, The Netherlands

Luminarie De Cagna is an Italian company that was founded in 1930. Then the firm lit on festive occasions, buildings and squares with oil and carbide lamps. Quickly they switched to electric lights and since 2006 for new projects only LED's. The lights are concatenated to the great curtains of light that are mounted on buildings or stretched detached elements. In this way, even whole streets and squares can be put in full light.
