Portrait of D. oil on Paper, 16″ x 9″, 2005 Our actions define us. They shape and break us, causing us to move forwards or back - making us victims of our own circumstance. It is the consequence of our actions that teaches us to live, to learn, to understand - sometimes with the most dire of consequences. Actions are the paintbrush with which we paint our portrait. It is with this most elemental philosophy that I approach my work. Art is essentially a portrait of ourselves . The portrait may exist in the diffused pastels of a landscape, the quick awkward paintstroke in a figurative, or the damning silence of a still life. To make sense of the world we live in today, we must approach it as though through a series of snapshots pieced together through a web of cartesian logic. This is a 2fer! Number 2 in my 52 Portraits Series PLUS an image for an upcoming class we'll be teaching. I took this portrait with the Canon Digital Rebel T3i, Portrait Mode, on-camera flash, kit lens. This is very close to SOOC. I ran Pioneer Woman Lovely & Ethereal action, sharpened her eyes, and cropped... that's it!
