Perseid Meteor Shower 2018 from near Paso Robles. This is a different version from the one I posted earlier. I thought the large non-Perseid meteor on the left (now gone) was distracting. Comments welcome!

What a lucky man i'm, i was at the right place, the right time, to capture one of the beautiful Perséide of last night !

The annual Perseids Meteor Shower was early this morning, and of course I wanted to be prepared. But seriously folks, it was very cloudy, and the street light in front of my house made it difficult to see anything. I only saw one meteor, and that was before I got the camera set up.

Gravity will eventually have its day but this ancient Whitebark Pine has tenaciously clung to the rim of Crater Lake for eons.

The night was frigid and my son Ryan and I felt the cold in our bones but it was a small price to pay to spend some time with this old soul during the Perseid Meteor Shower.

That's Wizard Island rising out of the Lake to the right of the tree and I managed to capture a meteor in the top left corner.

I took this shot a few years ago and always thought it had potential but my processing skills have only recently improved to the point where I could coax it into something that realistically reflected the image that captivated us that night.

Hope you enjoy,

Jeff

Perseid Meteor Shower seen over Mobius Arch, Alabama Hills.

Me and my old friend Mac headed out to Mobius Arch over the weekend in search of a dark place to catch the Perseid Meteor Shower. Here is a star circle taken during the meteor shower

Camera - Nikon D800

Lens - Tokina 16-28mm f2.8

Took quite a few shots last night of the stars and the wonderful display of the Perseid Meteor showers. Most of the image where we caught a meteor were so faint and then the clouds moved in... we did have a few breaks and did manage to catch one good one!

Maybe one day I'll get around to removing all the airplane trails from each frame, but for now I wanted to share a blend of 75 images which shows a light from a ship on the horizon to the right, some airplanes & a few meteors over Lake Michigan during a 40 minute period... And of course, some light pollution & star trails.

Tonight's Supermoon will be a particularly special event! It will be accompanied by the Perseid meteor shower. The Supermoon, also known as the Perigee Moon, is when the Moon is closest to the Earth. It appears brighter and larger. As the Moon will be very prominent in the sky tonight, it will be an excellent opportunity to observe and investigate the image of the Awaited One on the Moon and reap its benefits!

Re-editing a composite from 2013. The composite shows the milky way and meteors from a 6-hour time-lapse in a single view. Captured in 2013 during the Perseid Meteor Shower in Joshua Tree. Perseid Star Trails: Perseid earthgrazing meteor illuminates the Milky Way. Night sky star trails imaged during the 2015 Perseid meteor shower peak from Lake Absegami in Bass River State Forest, New Jersey.

Close up of one of the brightest meteors I captured. This one dropped in right between Mars and the Milky Way. This crop shows the distinctive colors of Perseid Meteors. Spectral analysis shows elements of calcium, sodium, magnesium, silicon and iron

This is a composite of two images, but the meteor is the exact size and is exactly where it occurred relative to Mars and the Milky Way. (No tricks)

On Friday night, I - along with my wife and her family - ventured to Fox House just outside of Sheffield in the hope of spotting some Perseids with it being the peak weekend of the meteor shower and Friday night being the better weather-wise.

We had a drink in the pub whilst waiting for it to get dark, then walked into Burbage to escape the lights of the pub.

I got this shot featuring the Milky Way and Mars (the bright, reddish spot on the left just above the horizon), with a meteor above and to the right of Mars.

While backpacking in the Eastern Sierra this summer I tried my hand at some night photography which I usually do because of the dark skies. The Kearsarge Pinnacles made for a perfect foreground to watch the Milkyway rise. And wouldn't you know it, being the tale end of the Perseid meteor shower, I managed to capture a meteor too (perfectly placed I might add!)!
