open fields, downs and woodlands,

it is particularly fond of Buddleia and thistle. it flies from July to September and again after hibrenation from early march to may. the sole larval foodplant is common Nettle and the larvae live commuanlly within a webb of silk

Turning out to be a good if not better year for butterflies, Peacock on white Buddleia.

Hey, wait a moment ... it is not a real PEACOCK, I know that, but please ... use your imagination ;-)

The first house was build in the thirteenth century as a hunting lodge used by the counts and dukes of Gelre. The house was named 'Pauwenburcht' (Peacock Castle) because of the white peacocks they kept there. The dukes of Gelre used to wear the feathers on their helmets.

The present house was build in 1905 on the foundations of a house dating from the seventeenth century.

Staverden Castle is build on the foundations of a seventeenth century house.

At the backside of the house lies a small island in a pond. On the the island you can find the tomb of Eleonora. This Eleonora lived at Wildenborgh Castle, one of the eight castles of Vorden. She had a lover, who went on a crusade in the Holy Land. When he was away, another man wanted to gain her by force. When her lover returned home, he was killed by his rival. Eleonora wanted to escape this evil man and fled to Staverden, where a mighty knight lived, who gave her protection. She stayed there for the rest of her unhappy life, always dressed in black.

After her death she was buried on the island in the pond. On moonlit nights, the black lady is seen there, walking to and fro on the island, wringing her hands and lamenting about her lost love.

A peacock butterfly feeding on green alkanet flowers at Burton Mere Wetlands RSPB reserve.

There were plenty of peacock butterflies at Charlottetown this morning.

Went for red squirrels who proved hard to find. Loved the peacocks.

Waltham Brooks Nature Reserve, Coldwaltham, near Pulborough, West Sussex.

I'm not sure if this is a juvenile male peacock or a female peahen. I'm leaning toward peahen but I'm not sure.

A very colorful bird.. But it kinda looks strange :-)

Surprisingly after all the heavy rain today , a lot of these Peacock Butterflies have appeared in our garden.

Peacock Close up - Leeds Castle

The male (peacock) Indian Peafowl has iridescent blue-green or green coloured plumage. The peacock tail ("train") is not the tail quill feathers but the highly elongated upper tail coverts. The "eyes" are best seen when the peacock fans its tail. Like a cupped hand behind the ear the erect tail-fan of the male helps direct sound to the ears. Both species have a crest atop the head. The female (peahen) Indian Peafowl has a mixture of dull green, brown, and grey in her plumage. She lacks the long upper tail coverts of the male but has a crest. The female can also display her plumage to ward off female competition or signal danger to her young.

Felt this would look better on fluidr

A beautiful peacock I was able to get very close to. via 500px ift.tt/2mGfnQ1

They've come to the garden in numbers. This was an especially large and brightly coloured one.

These are two of the Peacocks that greet the visitors to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, Charleston, SC

I went to Mexico, Ajijic to scout some places I could bring a photo group next year. We eat at a restaurant call The Peacock. Much to my surprise a Peacock show up right next to our garden table and gave us a show. Lasted about 10 or 15 minutes long. Lots of time to get photos.

Peacock Butterfly Catterpiller

A bit faded and worn but still beautiful

With a new monitor and calibration, I decided to play with some color today.
