taken towards the end of November 2011 in the Breacon Beacons National Park, Wales.

Looks better on black :-)

…on a good day. Gorgeous light for a few moments at the roadside when we stopped to make a phone call. The only things to shoot were sheep or hills… I did both. The sheep's in the comments….

Merthyr Mawr National Nature Reserve, Merthyr Mawr, Nr Bridgend, South Wales

This lovely sand dune nature reserve was once joined to Kenfig National Nature Reserve, and a continuous belt of sand and dune systems ran all the way along the coast from the Ogmore estuary as far west as the Gower Peninsula. There are interruptions to the beaches now , but Wales still has large and relatively unspoilt coastal and sand dune habitats, which are home to many fascinating plants, insects and birds.

The sand dunes here are unusual ,because they have formed against a Carboniferous Limestone Plateau that runs from East to West along the coast, making the dunes at Merthyr Mawr the second highest in Europe. The reserve also contains examples of the successional stages of dune formation, from bare sand, embryonic dunes to (further inland) stabilised dunes and slacks.

The site is managed by the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), and it is designated as a SSSI because of its wealth of plants and insect life. It is also well known as a place where some nationally rare and unusual fungi species grow

We spent a few days over Christmas staying with Granny and Granddad in Pembrokeshire.

Photographically the weather was rather hit and miss, but the forecast was perfect for Christmas Day - sunny with clouds!

Izzy and I cunningly escaped the post meal clearing up by going to the beach. But the weak winter sun was sinking fast so we didn't have time to waste.

Izzy has a mercurial and capricious nature as far as posing for photos goes. However on this occaision with a near empty beach at low tide, great weather and Izzy in a good mood, Neptune and Saturn were in conjunction and I was really pleased with the way the shots came out!

A beautiful beach in Pembrokeshire. We were blessed with a rainbow during our visit. And, of course, the prerequisite rain ;)

MAYBE THERE IS A HEAVEN

Place of silence and spiritual calm

Where sunlight and shadows dance together

Old trees with memories bend down low

Reflections in the water another world

Colours of nature ‘s precious jewels

Where secrets of the deep are hidden

Here in life of lake the tale is written

Rich shades of gold and ruby grow

As Autumn waves its magic wand

Maybe there could be a heaven

This is a picture of the houses on the coast in Tenby. I like the contrast between rough rocks and the colourful houses.

....By the light,of the silvery moon...and with some lightspheres like tumbleweeds, heading down the quiet Llanrwst Road....the traffic lights are on go.

And, just to prove that Wales is as colourful as anywhere else, this is what greeted us on our return home!

The weather was looking a bit gloomy when I arrived in Southerndown this afternoon, then all of a sudden the clouds broke and the sun shone through, as it started to go down it lit up the sky, pinky orange....when it's like this there's no better place on earth!!!
